National Village Cup Draw

Reed have been drawn at home to play against Sawbridgeworth in Round 2 of the 2019 National Village Cricket Championship (to give it its proper title), on Sunday 12th May. All Clubs from Beds & Herts have Byes in the 1st Round on 28th April and Northchurch also have a Bye in Round 2. Only 7 Clubs have entered our Group and the 2nd Round fixtures are: Reed v Sawbridgeworth. Sharnbrook and Bronham v Langleybury. Long Marston v Preston. Northchurch - Bye. Elsewhere, there are 15 Clubs in the Essex and Suffolk Group. In Cambs & Norfolk, our near neighbours Foxton will be playing Milton in the 1st Round then the winners will play Wilburton in Round 2. Thriplow have a Bye in the 1st Round and will then be away to Hethersett & Tas Valley (Norfolk) in the 2nd Round. Reedies running the Marathon

Hi All, As many of you will know, I’m not much of an athlete, however, in a moment of madness I applied for the London marathon and much to my surprise I got in!! This will be a hell of a challenge for me, as previously the most I’ve run in any one single effort is about a mile. So to make my efforts worthwhile I’ve decided to run for the Matt Hampson Foundation charity. As an emerging talent in the world of rugby, Matt Hampson’s world was rocked by a serious spinal injury sustained while training with England U21s.The shock would last months, the impact forever. Paralysed from the neck down Matt faced the toughest challenge of his life. Drawing on the passion, grit and steely determination that defined him as a player, Matt saw his accident not as an end, but as a new beginning. Through the Matt Hampson Foundation, Matt offers hope and inspiration to young people with similar injuries, sharing his experiences and devoting his life to raising vital funds for those in need of support. Wednesday evenings at the Clubhouse

A reminder that the Reed CC's Howard Marshall Pavilion is open for business every Wednesday evening from 1930hrs onwards. Come and have a chat, put the world to rights, watch soccer on the TV, throw a dart or two (or three!), play pool or simply enjoy the comfortable surroundings in the lounge bar. Bottled beers, lagers and ciders are on sale at “winter prices” (meaning cheaper than normal); plus soft drinks and nibbles, such as crisps and peanuts, some, (I am reliably informed), at even further reduced prices. Every Wednesday evening through to April - when the cricket should begin outdoors with some friendlies (and beer prices go up)! Fixtures will be added to the website calendar in the coming month once start times are agreed at the League's AGM and after the Village Cup draw which is expected in February. Click on “View All Events” on the right of this page then choose the months you want to look at. Friendlies will begin on 20th April, the 1st Round of the Village Cup on 28th April, then the Herts League on Saturday the 11th May. The season will end in September. PGB, Hon Sec, Reed CC.

Net Facilities at Burloes Hall Farm, Royston have been booked for a series of practice / net sessions on Sunday afternoons from 3rd February until mid-April between 1700hrs and 1900hrs. Potential new players will be welcome irrespective of standard. There will be a charge of £5 per person per week - please ensure you bring the correct money with you. Funeral Arrangements – Jason Pallett, 23/12/1988 to 23/12/2018

To All Members and Supporters of Reed CC, here are the arrangements for Jason’s funeral that I have received from Anne and Kevin. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just a quick update on the arrangements for Jason’s funeral service. The funeral will take place on Thursday 17th January at 2.15 pm. It will be at the West Crematorium, at Cambridge. Family flowers only please. Donations will be accepted on the day which will go to one of our local youth football teams. Please feel free to wear whatever you are comfortable in, in whatever colours. Millwall football shirts are also acceptable. There will be a celebration for Jason afterwards at The British Legion, Royston, where we can lift a glass and share our memories of him together. Many thanks on behalf of Jason's family and ourselves. Thank you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- At Reed Cricket Club, members have been shocked and saddened on hearing the news reports that Jason Pallett died of injuries in tragic circumstances on Sunday. Reports state that Jason was walking alongside the A10 at Melbourn at about 0530hrs on Sunday morning when he was struck by a van; he died at the scene. It was his 30th Birthday. Jason was brought up in Reed and was one of our Colts. He had the ability to spin the ball both ways and he became a regular player in the senior teams at weekends in his teen-aged years. Life Membership for Andrew Emms

Andrew Emms was made a Life Member of Reed Cricket Club during the Sixty-second Annual General Meeting last Thursday. Andrew has worked on a variety of projects at the Club in his time as it has grown from rural village side to one of the finest clubs in Hertfordshire. He continues to volunteer and carry-out many of the manual labouring jobs that need doing as well as organising annual charity luncheons that have raised money for many worthy causes. In his early days he was particularly involved in setting-up the Colts’ structure from which the Club has benefitted with a constant supply of young players coming through to the senior teams. After many years as Committee member and Club Chairman, Andrew remains the figurehead of the Club as its President since 2012. He is a generous socialiser and a very loyal member of the Club and deserves this recognition. He now joins a very select band of Life Members comprising Clive Collins, Rosemary Collins, Keith Collins and Roger Bowcock. Peter G. Baker. Honorary Secretary, Reed CC 2nd December 2018.

Agenda for the Sixty-second Annual General Meeting of Reed Cricket Club to be held in the Howard Marshall Pavilion on Thursday 29th November 2018 starting at 2000hrs. 1. To confirm the present incumbent, Andrew Emms, as President and Chairman of the AGM. No alternative nominations for the position of President have been received within the time allowed. Consequently, Andrew Emms remains as President. 2. Minutes. Approval and signing of minutes of the RCC AGM held on 23rd November 2017. 3. Matters arising. 4. To receive the Honorary Secretary’s Report. 5. To receive the Annual Accounts. 6. To consider amendments to the Club Constitution. Only members over the age of 16 may vote. A majority of two-thirds of members present at the meeting in favour for changes is required. 7. To consider and ratify or amend rates of Subscription & Match Fees. Only members over the age of 16 may vote. 8. To elect Vice-Presidents, Officers and Auditors for the coming year. Rules, (all those voting must be fully paid-up members of the Club). Playing members over the age of 16 may vote on the election of all the officers. Playing members under the age of 16 may not vote.
