Awards Winners 2021

Awards Winners 2021 Congratulations to all the Winners of the various Club Awards that were presented at the Annual Dinner on Saturday. After being almost back to normality and a full fixture list, Reed Cricket Club celebrated the 2021 season at their Annual Awards Presentation Dinner held at the Old Bull Inn, Royston. The Club’s Captains distributed Trophies to the various individuals who had contributed worthy performances during the season and to other Club members who consistently carry-out largely unnoticed “behind the scenes” tasks. Club Chairman Stuart Smith congratulated the winners as well as thanking all the players both old and new who had represented Reed this year. He said that he was pleased with some individual performances but especially so from a clutch of youth players who had debuted in the senior teams this year. The Youth Section continues to develop players in all age-groups and they must be encouraged to stay at Reed as the future success of the Club would depend on them. This year’s winners are listed below. To see previous winners, (going back decades in some cases), look at the “History” pages on this website. The background explanations for the particular award are included. I suggest you alter the "Show Entries" to 100 to be able to see the full lists. PGB

Life Memberships for Peter Lawrence and Steve Dunn

Life Membership of the Cricket Club was conferred on Peter Lawrence and Steve Dunn at the recent AGM. Peter was a founder member of the Club and has a long playing history. He has been a Club member for 63 years. Off the field in years past Peter, in his role as Chairman of Reed Parish Council, helped smooth the relationship between Club and Council, and his engineering background also made him indispensable at the time when the Club was establishing itself. Steve is a Past-President and former Club Captain, one of only two people to have held both positions. Steve was instrumental in setting-up the Colts section in the 1970s and was one of the finest wicket-keepers in the county. In latter years he had been willing to provide one-to-one wicket-keeping coaching. Steve’s friendly approach over a drink in the bar was often the first contact many prospective new playing members had with the Club, a tactic that paid off when they decided to join RCC. Both Peter's and Steve’s association continues as two of the Club’s Trustees. In recommending these Life Memberships, the Committee recognised that the Club would not be where it is now without their contributions over the years. Peter and Steve now join a very select band of Life Members comprising Clive Collins, Rosemary Collins, Keith Collins, Roger Bowcock and Andrew Emms. Peter G. Baker. Honorary Secretary, Reed CC 14th December 2019.

Awards Winners 2019

Awards Winners 2019 Congratulations to all the Winners of the various Club Awards that were presented at the Annual Dinner on Saturday. Reed Cricket Club celebrated its most significant season in their history on Saturday at their Annual Awards Presentation Dinner held at the Old Bull Inn, Royston. Having already seen the Second XI head Division 4B in the Hertfordshire League with a more than comfortable 35-point margin the 1st XI had a momentous weekend the following week with a triumphant play-off match to achieve promotion to the Herts Premier League for the first time followed by their third victory in the National Village Cup sponsored by The Cricketer Magazine and hosted by MCC at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The Club’s Captains distributed Trophies to the various individuals who had contributed worthy performances during the season and to other Club members who consistently carry-out largely unnoticed “behind the scenes” tasks. Club Chairman Stuart Smith congratulated the winners as well as thanking all the players who had represented Reed in this fantastic year. He said that performances across the board were greatly improved but the Club should not rest on its laurels. RCC should be encouraging more playing and social members and to bridge the gap by introducing more Colts into Open-Age weekend cricket and to involve their parents in the Club’s activities. Stuart concluded by saying how very proud he was to be Chairman of Reed at this exciting time in its history as the players look forward to next season’s challenges. This year’s winners are listed below. To see previous winners, (going back decades in some cases), look at the “History” pages on this website.
