2004 Match Report

u11s Cokenach 2004

Reed Under 11’s maintained their Cambridgeshire League Challenge with a comprehensive win against Cokenach on Friday night. Put in to bat by their visitors on a gloriously warm and sunny evening the accurate Cokenach bowling took several wickets and put such a stranglehold on the early Reed pairs that after 9 of their 15 overs Reed were showing a nett score of only +6 runs at 206 – 4. However Reed’s strength this season has been in their final 2 pairings and this again proved to be the case. Under pressure to raise the scoring rate William Heslam 28 struck a series of fine shots to the boundary as he and George Garrott put on a nett 31 for the 4th pairing. This acceleration was well supported by final pair Kallum Ward 16 and Ben Jackson 8 who took the Reed total to a respectable but not overly impressive 268 – 5. Reeds bowling needed to be effective and it proved to be so. Ben Jackson 3 overs 2 – 9, Kallum Ward 3 overs 2 –18, and George Garrott 2 overs 2 - 12 were well supported by William Heslam 3 overs 0 – 8 whilst Heslam also took a fine diving catch to secure another Cokenach wicket. Alex West, Michael Fox and Matthew Naeem also bowled tidily and Cokenach were contained to 237 –7 giving Reed a comfortable victory by 31 runs and preserving their 100% win record for the season and their position at the top of the table.
