Home side Whittlesford comfortably progressed to 232 for the loss of only 5 wickets in 40 overs. Adult player S Burdett opened the innings and retired on 53 once he had completed his half-century, as laid-down in the rules of the competition. Nevertheless, youngsters Luke Cullen (41) and Louis Clayton (27) batted well before number 5, Hobbs, went to town and knocked-up 49 not out before the declaration came. Karl Ward had bowled impressively for Reed again, taking 2 for 24, but only Rupert Martin and David Hill amongst the other 7 bowlers managed 1 wicket each. In the Reed innings, opener Will Heald hit 5 fours in his 22 but was caught in the deep with the score on 44. Maccie Naeem continued to reach the boundary on a regular basis and eventually was out for 43 as the pursuit was maintained. Teenagers David Johnson (34) and Matt Bowles (20) gave Reed some hope of overhauling the target, but when four further wickets fell, they settled for a draw. Michael Robertson and Rupert Martin contributing runs towards the end. Whittlesford skipper Luke Cullen took 2 for 34. |
