Put into bat on a damp seamer friendly wicket, Reed struggled against a tight Old Cholmelians opening pair of Khaliques and Marine.

Apart from Peter Bakers robust 23, Reed’s top order failed to dominate and slumped to 59-5. However Richard Johnson 28, stood firm and in company with Marcus Martin began to rescue the innings and build a total.

After Johnson fell caught, Martin continued to force the pace ruthlessly despatching anything loose to the boundary. Joined by Jim Allsopp, the pair put on a further rapid 42 before Allsopp fell for 23. Martin went on to complete his 50 and despite Khalique’s 5-49 cleaning up the Reed tail, Martin 58 not out ensured a respectable 193 total for Reed.

Old Cholmelians made a steady start in reply and the Reed openers found wickets hard to come by as the track dried out. Andrew Emms stuck to his task well and was rewarded with 3 wickets and the introduction of fit again Robertson saw Reed begin to exhibit more control.

Reed fielded well and took their catches and a decisive moment came when keeper Dunn smartly stumped Shuka for 30 of Jason Archer. 96-4 slid to 144-9 in the face of the Reed pressure and the reintroduction of Richard Johnson saw him bowl Shanker for 22 and give Reed a second win in successive weeks.
