Played at the Long Road ground, Reed batted first and prospered until the first wicket fell at 54, (Will Heald lbw for 27). After this loss, Reed carried-on to 82 for 4 but then the wickets tumbled and Reed ended at a disappointing 96 all out in the 31st over with Peter Baker making 41. Strachan had the best figures of 4 for 20, but the main damage was actually inflicted by John Welch, the Royston first XI player and ex-captain, who made life difficult by bowling 6 overs for just 12 runs and taking 2 wickets. Seeing him on the pitch playing for Granta was most surprising.

In Granta’s reply, Powell scored 20 before being bowled by Karl J Ward, but did not then lose another wicket as Hoy (29 n.o.) and Ackroyd (39 n.o.) made sure of a comfortable victory.
