Fresh from Saturday‚s disappointing loss to Flitwick, Reed continued in their Village Cup quest by overthrowing Chipperfield, who they beat last year in the village cup, by 10 wickets and proceeding to the regional semi-finals. Winning the toss and electing to field, Reed bowled tightly to restrict the 10-man strong visitors to 96 all out in 37 overs. Chris Jackson, fresh from his century and 3 catches the previous day, continued afresh with the ball as he snatched 3 wickets (9-3-8-3). Jim Allsopp also bowled with exemplary control of line and length in his spell to also claim a wicket (9-3-15-1). Richard Jerome (6-1-11-0) also bowled tightly as did William Clarke (6-1-19-2). Only N. Crumpton offered any notion of resistance with 29*. Reed’s young fielding side showed its agility by again claiming 2 run-outs.
Chipperfields lacklustre batting performance rubbed off on their fielding as none of their bowlers managed to take hold of Reed’s openers, and bowled with a lack of control of their length. James Heslam raced to a majestic 65*, 46 of which came in boundaries. Supported well by Tom Fulk (24*), the pair saw Reed to victory within 21 overs, leaving 19 overs left. As a result, Reed now proceed to the regional semi-finals against Biddenham at home on May 30th, whom they beat last year. |
