Reed won the toss and batted, but were soon in trouble at 6-2. Paul Watts and John Heslam consolidated and steadied the innings against tight Botany Bay bowling. The pair took the score to 60 before Heslam fell trying to force the pace for 25.

Richard Robertson took over where Heslam left off and added a further 25 before holing out in the deep. Watts mean whilecontinued to accumulate runs and once passed 50 accelerated the scoring in company with Ben Bowles, 21. A weary Watts eventually fell for a fine 82 as Reed ultimately achieved a respectable 185-8 in there 53 overs.

The Botany Bay innings started similarly to Reed’s with them losing 3 quick wickets. However their consolidation led by Cardaby (30) lasted only until Cardaby was bowled by Robertson with the score at 42-4.

Thereafter wickets fell regularly until Bay were all out for 76. Jim Allsopp, 2-33, Ian Roberts, 2-17, Richard Robertson 2-7 and Jason Archer 3-4 all bowled tidily for Reed and Andrew Wholley, 7 overs, 0-10 made a good return after 2 1/2 years away from regular cricket action.

Promoted to Division 7 last season Reed now sit joint top of the table with 80 points undeafted after 4 matches.
