Electing to field, Babraham looked to have made the wrong decision once Reed openers Will Heald (23) and Marcus Martin (26) got going quick time. But when they were parted the momentum slowed. Matt Bowles (18), Karl Ward (23), James Radmore (17), Rupert Martin (15) and Sam Bowles (12no) all contributed useful runs, but Reed ended a little under par with 160 for 6 after 40 overs.

After that, it was T. McNulty who stole the show. A scorer’s blip enabled him to continue his innings past his 50 when he should have retired, by reason of him being over 18 years old. No one had realised that he was officially ‘an adult’. He was already on 55 when he took 17 off one further over, so that when his innings was totalled-up, he had actually reached 72. Reed skipper, Baker, accepted that an honest mistake had been made. What’s more – he had been the bowler of that one fruitful over!!!!

Nevertheless, none of the Reed bowlers looked like taking a wicket during the innings and there were needless wides and byes that added to the total. C. Palmer and Ernie Collings contributed 44 not out and 27 not out respectively for Babraham who reached their target in only the 26th over with no wickets lost.
