Kreetzer, Sugden and Kenzie all scored useful runs for the home side playing at Thriplow on a sunny, warm evening. At one stage they were 80 for 3 but R&C skipper Alec Eve played an ace by removing his wicket-keeping kit and bowled 4 overs taking 3 for 20. He was ably supported in the bowling department by Lewis Jordan (2 for 23) and Fergus Martin (2 for 15) and young Michael Townsend deputising behind the wicket. A total of 110 was not a massive one bearing in mind that R&C’s team contained only 9 players and 6 of these were Under 13s and one was U11. They all fielded extremely well and were committed.

The batting line-up was shuffled to accommodate ages and abilities and R&C set off well with Fergus Martin placing the ball behind point a number of times. Unfortunately he was cut-off prematurely as he was run-out by yards after looking so comfortable. Jason Pallett, playing his first game of the season, batted at number 3 and he and Alec Eve took the score to 49 after 10 overs when the visitors looked well-poised to gain a victory. Shawn Jackson scored 2 boundaries in a row once Eve had departed for 16, but then after R&C had reached 70 for 4, Sugden and Puttman spoiled the day. 70 for 4 became 70 for 8 and as R&C had only 9 players, they were all-out without adding another run.

The R&C youngsters can take great credit for their efforts. Although generally smaller and not as strong as the T&W players, they showed ability, enthusiasm and teamwork throughout.
