An opening partnership of 63 between Max Carlton (36) and Alec Eve (31 not out) was the feature of Reed & Cokenach’s innings. Both played confidently and steadily. However, with a long boundary on one side and the outfield not particularly quick, the closing score of 84 for 2 was probably a little below what would have been a comfortable total. Judge and Fynn each took 1 wicket for Royston although left-arm quick, Kodituwakkaj, was very lively too.

Fynn opened the batting with Randi Thomas and put-on 36 for the first wicket in 8 overs. This despite David Hill conceding just 3 runs from 3 overs. Then wickets began to tumble and 4 overs later Royston were at 58 for 4. Fergus Martin and Ed Garrott from Reed’s Under 13 side getting amongst the wickets.

Royston proceeded to 67, yet with 6 overs remaining, 6 wickets in-hand and just 18 runs to win, Garrott produced excellent bowling and bamboozled the home batsmen with flight and spin. Hill came back and took a wicket and Royston continued to slip.

With one over remaining, Royston required 3 runs to win and the last pair at the crease. Fergus Martin was the bowler and 1 run came from the 3rd delivery. He then contrived to hit the batsman on the pad on the 5th delivery and, as they crossed, a direct throw came in to the bowler’s end resulting in a run out.

May had top-scored with 20, but Ed Garrott ended with 5 for 10 as R&C won by 1 run.
