Shawn Jackson claimed the first wicket in the first over of the game, but Reed & Cokenach’s hopes were dashed as C. Palmer, (13), L. Poulter, (22 n.o.), D. Archer, (31), and L. Halpin, (19 n.o.), then all batted competently for the visitors to reach 114 for 3 after their allotted 20 overs. Spinner Ed Garrott was extremely miserly by bowling 3 over for just 6 runs and taking 1 wicket.

The home side never really got going. With only two players considered to be genuinely in the Under 15 age group and two more at Under 14, the remaining seven had been drafted-in from Reed’s Under 13 side. Again Poulter and Archer starred for Babraham as they each took 2 wickets. Alec Eve reached 12 and Max Carlton scored 30, but these were the only batsmen to achieve double figures, and they were never in contention against stronger, accurate bowling and athletic fielding.
