Reed were hoping to get into the Herts and Beds Final of the National Village Cup with a home tie against Eversholt. The game started poorly for the hosts as Reed lost Baz Curtis early on before James Heslam and Tom Fulk started to rebuild the innings. By the time Fulk was out for 23 in the 15th over the total had moved on to 56. This brought Chris Jackson to the crease and he looked in good form bravely playing through a nasty injury picked up last weekend that kept him out of Saturdays game.

However, despite the efforts of Jackson following a decent partnership with Heslam wickets continued to fall, with all batsman getting started without turning their start into a match winning innings. The pick of the Reed batsman in their total of 176-6 were Heslam (43) and Jackson (39). In reply Eversholt raced to 42-1 in 6 overs, which meant they were always ahead of the required run rate. Tight bowling from Richard Jerome, a couple of wickets for Jason Archer and superb catches from Pete Tidey and Chris Jackson could not stop Eversholt reaching Reeds total with 4 wickets in hand and 3 overs to spare.

Reed Captain Simon Jackson “was disappointed with both results. Saturday we batted poorly against a good attack whilst on Sunday Eversholt were better than us in all departments. It is a huge disappointment to lose in the Village Cup but we need to bounceback next week against Northwood”.
