Reed U9s (1) End Season as “Invincibles”!
Reed Under 9s (1) ended their season in style completing three further comfortable victories to finish unbeaten with 7 wins out of 7. The first of the three victories came away to Sawbridgeworth where with the team strengthened by the addition of Natasha McNamara they racked up a score of 319 with the largest scores by Natasha, Ethan Fox and Rory Longland backed up by an excellent bowling and fielding display with 2 wickets each for Eddie Heslam, Natasha and Ethan. The second win came against joint league title challengers Bishops Stortford, the game was expected to be tight to decide the league winners but Reed comfortably secured their second win against Stortford. Reed scored 328 with Ethan producing a fantastic innings of 43 well supported by all players including Eddie (12) and Jon Green (11). As usual Reed performed excellently in the field with Josh Heslam, Toby Cook and Ethan taking the wickets restricting Stortford to 248. The final game of the season the team saved their best for last putting in an outstanding display away to Braughing which will be remembered for the fielding which was exceptional with 6 catches and 3 direct hit run outs as the home side must have wondered what had hit them. The batting was solid as Reed scored 299 with Eddie (19), Josh (18) and Toby (16) top scoring. And then in the aforementioned superb fielding performance leading wicket takers were Josh (3), Toby, Eddie and Hugh Hollamby (2). It’s been a superb season for the young side having fun and performing so well above their age level in U9s cricket. Match Reports submitted by James Heslam.
Reed Under 9s IIs unbeaten run continues
Reed were at home to Sawbridgeworth on Monday evening. Batting first Ollie and Luke batted solidly against Sawbridgeworth’s strongest bowlers, before Effie and Lily (who hit a great 4) followed up. Matthew and Lenny batted next and where the only pair not to get out. And then the hard-hitting Henry and Atharva finished off the innings where Reed scored 227-9. Henry top scored with 11, Ollie got 7 and Matthew 6. After an inspirational TeamTalk from captain Luke, Reed bowled tight and straight. Pick of the bowlers was Effie taking 4-5, Lily 2-1 (including a maiden) and Atharva 1-13. It got very tight and Sawbo needed 2 to win off the last two overs and in the penultimate over Luke bowled a maiden before Ollie bowled 5 dot balls leaving Sawbo needing 1 to tie or 2 to win off the last ball. Sawbo got bat on ball and with the encouragement of the away supporters they scampered through for a single to also finish on 227-9, so the game finished as a tie. This was a great advert for children’s cricket with every pair batting for four overs, bowling for two overs and importantly with every child walking off the pitch with a smile on their face. Super cool Ollie see Reed U9 (2) to first ever win
After suffering three straight defeats the ever improving under 9B team won their first ever game in an epic finish at Reed against Braughing. Ollie and Luke set the pace with energetic running whilst Henry top scored with a hard hitting 11. But importantly Ollie, Luke, Atharva, Daniel and Matthew did not get out in a very respectable 265-5. Excluding four separate overthrows in an all run seven Reed bowled and fielded exceptionally well. Catches were caught by Henry, Matthew and Luke whilst Ollie and Atharva both got two wickets. Matthew, Henry, Daniel and Luke also took a wicket and got four run outs by Daniel (2), Matthew and Ollie. The match came down to the final over with Braughing needing 8 to win and with the super cool Ollie bowling, he took an important wicket to win the game for Reed. The team were over the moon in winning in an all round great performance, especially having 2 players not available. Match Report submitted by Simon Jackson.
Jackson steps in to see Under 9s to 4 in 4
Reed Under 9s (1) made it 4 wins out of 4 after they squeezed over the line against Sawbridgeworth at the Green on Friday. Reed captain Josh Heslam won the toss and elected to bowl and with the opposition on 230 after 12 of their 16 overs everything looked good for the young Reed side. However an impressive last wicket Sawbridgeworth stand set a competitive 258 for Reed to win. Reed wicket-takers were Josh and Eddie Heslam, Jon Green, Luke Wilson and Oliver Walters. This total looked particularly challenging for Reed to win when after the first pair they were only at 201. However Josh (24) and Eddie Heslam (6) had other ideas and quickly changed the momentum of the game progressing Reed to 233. Luke Wilson and Hugh Hollamby edged the hosts closer but at 245 going into the final pairing the game was in the balance. Step forward Matthew Jackson (17) who took a last minute call after the rain caused selection confusion to arrive part way through the first innings to then deliver the decisive blows hitting 4 boundaries in the final pairing with Oliver Walters to see Reed home and complete an enjoyable and exciting game in style.
