Archer makes mincemeat of Braughing

Whilst Braughing is known locally for their sausages, our stand-in captain Will Archer made mincemeat of their middle order to finish with figures of 5 for 18 in an Under 15 development friendly on Thursday (17th). His evening started pretty well winning the toss and electing to bat. Dom Longland and Oli Tapsell struck the new ball well and ran between the wickets athletically. We also gave debuts to Bear Coates and Matt Ladds, the latter second top scored with 13 striking a couple of lovely fours. Will Green followed suit by bludgeoning 18 crucial runs too. Coates also capped a winning debut with a fine catch in the deep later on. We didn’t give ourselves a great deal of room for comfort though with a relatively slim total of 86. Needless to say we defended it well with a couple of neat stumpings by stand-in keeper Dan Vincent. His brother Jacob Vincent also showed good control with his bowling. He and James Mitchell both contributed well with figures of 3 for 7 and 1 for 1! Dom Longland also struck early and finished with 2 for 15. Ultimately it was our spin bowlers who wrapped up the result though with sizzling accuracy. Oli Cambridge sent down two maiden overs with Jacob and James above setting Will Archer up for his timely batch of wickets. We restricted Braughing to skinny 57 to win by 29 runs. Thriplow is well known for its daffodils let’s hope we are shining brightly against them this coming week. We have them at Reed on the 24th then Away on the 25th. Super cool Ollie see Reed U9 (2) to first ever win

After suffering three straight defeats the ever improving under 9B team won their first ever game in an epic finish at Reed against Braughing. Ollie and Luke set the pace with energetic running whilst Henry top scored with a hard hitting 11. But importantly Ollie, Luke, Atharva, Daniel and Matthew did not get out in a very respectable 265-5. Excluding four separate overthrows in an all run seven Reed bowled and fielded exceptionally well. Catches were caught by Henry, Matthew and Luke whilst Ollie and Atharva both got two wickets. Matthew, Henry, Daniel and Luke also took a wicket and got four run outs by Daniel (2), Matthew and Ollie. The match came down to the final over with Braughing needing 8 to win and with the super cool Ollie bowling, he took an important wicket to win the game for Reed. The team were over the moon in winning in an all round great performance, especially having 2 players not available. Match Report submitted by Simon Jackson.

U9s make it 3 in 3

Reed U9s 1 made it 3 wins out of 3 with a convincing victory over Braughing on Friday evening after the grounds staff (and willing parents!) did a fantastic job to fit the game in around the British summertime weather! Reed 1 again lost the toss and were asked to bat. Ethan Fox (19) and Rory Longland (27) again did a fantastic job setting the tone for the innings scoring freely, which when backed up by Josh (22) and Eddie Heslam (10) saw Reed well on their way to a big score. The hosts ended up on 329 with others chipping in along the way. In reply Braughing were always up against it particularly facing the strong Reed 1 bowling line up and they finished up on 233 with wickets coming from Josh Heslam (2), Rory Longland, Hugh Hollamby and Harrison and everyone else bowling very tightly. The benefits of the Reed team playing a season of Under 9s cricket at the ages of 6 - 7 clearly paying off as they are currently competing strongly still a year or more below the age group.
