Bayford and Hertsford

Bayford & Hertford decided to put Reed into bat in there friendly Sunday fixture. Reed lost an early wicket on 16, but this only brought together Simon Roberts and Mark Peart who were both in form from last week. They put on 79 for the 2nd wicket and put Reed on top. They both kept good concentration as the teams have to come off due to rain. Roberts holed out at long off for 42 hitting 1 6 and 4 4s his total. Peart using his hand crafted Dolphin bat hit 54 before he was dismissed. It was his second consecutive Sunday fifty. Reed then found themselves 134-4 before Simon Jackson and new under 25 star Stuart Smith put on 51 for the 5th wicket. They started slowly, but Smith soon came out of his shell and put bat to ball hitting his first runs for the first team. He was out for a splendid 22. Jackson continued to stroke the ball around, including 3 huge 6. He was left 58 not out when Reed declared. They set Bayford & Hertford 204 to win. Bayford & Hertford got off to a flying start. They were 55 for no wicket after just 12 overs with Bracewell 18 not out and Knowles on 35 with the rains came and it the match had to be called off.

Baldock

Reed won the toss and decided to bat on a grassy fluffy wicket. They lost an early wicket with the score on just 13. When Baz Curtis was removed for 27 Reed were 44-2 which quickly became 51-3 in the 13th over. Reed needed someone to get there head doen and bat through the innings. The found just the man in Peter Morley. He batted the whole innings but 3 overs. In the process he scored an unbeaten 89, including 14 boundaries. Only Jason Nolan with 10 and Simon Jackson with 20 got in to double figures. Reed were bowled out for 193. Baldock's innings was very simular to Reed's. Theirs was based on 64 from Williamson and 51 nout out by Bentley. All the bowlers chipped in. There was also a welcome return to the bowling line up of spinner Simon Jackson who took 2 vital wickets in the middle of the innings. Peter Tidey took 3-71 and Martin Seale 2-33. The game swung backwards and forwards. Baldock looked to be cruising, but with Tidey's late burst Reed were back in it. With 20 needed to win John Pemberton sent Lemoir's off stump out of the ground and Reed looked set for victory, but it was not to be. In the end Baldock scrapped home by 1 wicket, but Reed did pick up 17 vital points.

Wormley

Reed won the toss and decided to bat in this friendly game against Wormley. Reed were quickly 7-1, but Peter Morley and Mark Peart rebuilt the innings before Morley was caught for 9 with the score on 40. This was to bring Simon Roberts together and the start of a stand of 171. Both Roberts and Peart hit the ball to all parts of the ground. A mixture of good running and quality stroke play kept the runs flowing. Peart stroked 7 4s in his 76 and Roberts smashed 10 4s and 1 6 on the way to 102. Both overcame the problem of having to come off numerous times for rain. They were both unbeaten as Reed posted 211-2. In reply Reed quickly had Wormley in trouble. Both Ian Roberts and Martin Seale got in to the Wormley batting. Roberts picked up 2 of the first 3 wickets to fall. Between them they had Wormley 25-3. When Wormley became 54-4 it looked like Reed had done the hard work. Then Wormley put on 82 for the 5th wicket before Scott Rouse bowled Uwins for 66. Martin Seale came back into the attack and managed to stop the runs flowing putting Wormley behind the run rate. Phil Divers was bowling well at the other end too and forced McCarthy into going over the top and he was well held in the deep by Simon Roberts. Seale picked up 3 more wickets leaving him with figures of 4-31 from 12 overs. In the end Reed couldn't get the last man out and Wormley were 9 down for 192 and the match was drawn.

Report:Woodford Green

Woodford Green won the toss and decided to put Reed into bat on a bright sunny day. Reed got off to a quick start mainly helped by extras. Peter Baker was the first to go for 11, but this then brough Simon Jackson to the middle. He and Baz Curtis out on 82 for the 2nd wicket. It was a patient stand against some tight Woodford Green bowling. Curtis finally went for a very restrained 41. Jackson went on to make 32. Simon Roberts opened his account with a towering six, but was one of Nicholls's 3 victims for 24. Reed were now running out of time and need quick runs, but instead lost quick wickets. Only Richard Robertson managed to break the strangle hold. He hit a quick 19 not out, but declared on 170-9. Nicholls bowled 17 overs for just 42 taking 3 wickets. He was helped by Boby who bowled 14 overs for 35 runs and took 4 wickets. Reed really needed quick wickets to take so control, but Woodford Green put on 61 for the first wicket. Martin Seale took 2 wickets in his opening 3 overs and gave Reed a chance. This just brought Boby to the crease and he struck the only 50 of the game. After he was run out for 57, Woodford Green only need 6 to win. Reed didn't give up though. They took another wicket and made getting those runs difficult. In the end Woodford Green got over the finishing line with just 3 overs to spare. Seale ended up with 4-42 from 14 over.

WGC

   Reed won the toss and decided to put Welwyn Garden City into bat on a dampish track. The Reed opening attack kept the Welwyn Garden City batsmen under the cosh early on and made scoring hard. William Clarke got the early wicket Reed wanted having O'Regan well caught for just 7. Peter Costen then joined the attack and quickly removed the other opener. Then Welwyn Garden City rebuilt with Brian and Hyatt putting on over 100 for the 3rd wicket. They still weren't scoring at a quick rate though. Martin Seale then came back into the attack and removed Hyatt for 33. Brian went on to make 115 not out and was the mainstay of the Welwyn Garden City innings. Reed made a quick start with Baz Curtis hitting a rapid 23. He was first out with the score on 29. Reed suddenly found themselves 55-5 and in deep trouble. Richard Tufton and Phil Divers started to steady the ship. They rebuilt well and got Reed into a good position with a solid partnership. Divers was the first to go for a good 30. Peter Costen replaced him and started to smashed the ball to all parts of the ground.Tufton was finally run out for 57, his maiden first team half century. Peter Costen continued his smash and grab raid on the Welwyn Garden City bowling. He hit a huge six to put Reed to within striking distance. Martin Seale came in with 9 balls to go and hit a couple of 2s and then with 3 balls to go smashed a 4 to win the came. Reed got home with 3 wickets to spare.

Therfield

Therfield won the toss and decided to put local their local rivals into bat. Reed had a reasonable start. Henry Tufton was beginning to show his shots when he had to retire ill. He fell victim to the heat. Reed's 197-5 was based around 87 not out from Mark Peart. He caressed the ball around nicely and was well support by Simon Roberts, who got 16, and a dashing 25 from Graham Hazard. Peart hit 10 boundaries and was only stopped from getting his first ton of the season by the declaration. Neil Haslam bowled 17 overs and only conceded 19 runs. He made sure Therfield were always behind the run rate. He also picked up 3 vital wickets. Graham Letford removed the inform Nick Duncan when he forced him to hit his own stumps. Whitby made a valiant effort to push the run rate along. When he was batting with Ellis a Therfield victory was an outside possibility. Scott Rouse had Ellis when stumped by Ian Roberts and Therfield's last chance of victory had gone. Whitby went on to make his 50. In the end the game petered out into a tame draw, with Therfield 155-5.
