Colts Enrolment and Awards Presentation Evening

Dear Colts, Parents and Carers, There will be a Colts’ Presentation and Enrolment Evening in the Pavilion on Thursday 22nd March at 7.00 p.m. with awards, reports and presentations to last season’s outstanding players. All existing Colts are welcome, as well as new ones. If you have any friends, boys or girls, who might be interested, bring them along to the evening. If you were awarded a trophy last year, please return it to Cilla Robertson by 10th February for engraving. Caps and cricket equipment, including Abdo guards will be on display to order or purchase. If you are selected to play in a match, you are expected to wear full Reed C.C. whites (available to purchase via the Reed C.C. website: http://www.tylers-sportswear.co.uk/Catalogue/Sports-Webshops/Cricket-Clubs/Reed-CC ) and a Reed Cricket Club cap (no other cap). All players, who do not have their own helmet, are measured at the start of the season, so that you and your manager can ensure that you wear the correct helmet when batting or wicket keeping. Owing to Reed First XI’s continued success in the Herts Premier Cricket League (Championship) on Saturdays we shall continue with coaching on Sunday mornings this year. The first training session starts on Sunday 22nd APRIL from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. and continue until Sunday 22nd July. This year the U15s & U16s will train with the senior club players. Scorer and Umpire Courses

Scorer and Umpire Courses As you might be aware the MCC has introduced a new set of Laws which will be in effect for the coming season. At the same time the ECB Association of Cricket Officials (ECBACO) has introduced a new set of courses which are now focussed on umpiring skills and much less on the Laws. The MCC has introduced a new on-line resource which anyone is able to access. You will know that we have a continuing need for scorers and umpires and that the League is keen to encourage clubs to put people forward to become more capable and qualified. I hope that you will continue to support this initiative. Courses are now booked on-line via the ECBACO. For details of courses see below or visit HACO (www.herts-aco.org) websites. Honorary Secretary’s Report, 2017.

Honorary Secretary’s Report, 2017. I have routinely begun this Report by detailing the changes of personnel on the Club’s General Committee; this year, that is secondary. The most significant change to our Club came with the death in September of our twice-Past President, Howard Marshall, at the age of 82. He had been in declining health for some months. I am sure you will have your own memories and anecdotes of and about Howard and I don’t intend to reproduce them here. All I shall state is that without Howard’s massive influence, commitment, hard-work and leadership for almost half-a-century, Reed Cricket Club and its players would not be where they are today. Thank you Howard. We look forward to next season when in a ceremony at which we hope members of his family will be present, we shall be naming the Clubhouse, the Howard Marshall Pavilion in his honour. Last autumn, it was a shock to me to receive an indication from John Heslam that he would not be seeking re-election as Club Chairman nor as Committee Member at the 2016 AGM. More on that later. Others of the 2015/6 Committee who also stood down for various reasons were Marcus Martin, Ian Osborne, Mike Robertson, Graham Smith, Jack Tidey, Paul Watts and Rob Willoughby. I thank them all for their parts in managing the Club and all the tasks they have collectively carried-out over the years. Putting themselves forward to Committee positions at the AGM were Phil Frenay, (2nd XI Captain), and Peter Tidey (without portfolio). Matt Bowles ceased being Social Secretary and took over as Playing Sub-Committee Chairman, Cilla Robertson added Colts Liaison to her roles as Welfare Officer and Membership Secretary. Although already [...]

End of Season Reviews, Captains & Colts’ Managers

1st XI REPORT 2017 A season of “what ifs” for the First Team this year! Once again we proved ourselves to be in the top four teams in the Championship Division and if it hadn’t been for some availability issues I could now be writing this as a Premier League Captain. However, there were lots of positives to take away from the season. We beat every team in the League this year with the exception of Dunstable where rain halted our progress over at their place, showing we really aren’t far away from winning this League. Jack Tidey, back in the side after a lengthy stretch away with injury, was very pleasing to see, and towards the back end of the season was starting to really look back to his old way. Ed Wharton having another fine season with bat and ball, and backed-up by the Heslam brothers, Rob Lankester, Sean Tidey and some handy lower order hitting from myself, Stuart Smith and Mitchell Cooper. Rich Wharton also contributing with some match-winning knocks and outstanding performances with the gloves throughout the season. Mike Catt at the age of just 15 made his First Team debut and hit 66 not out in only his second innings, proving he really will be one to watch in the future. Our bowling attack served us well as per usual with Ed and Jack leading the way supported by Toby Fynn and our spinners. On a slightly sadder note, Chris Jackson, the “granddad” of the First Team, has decided that after 22 years, (I think), he is going to hang-up his First Team boots. I wouldn’t even like to guess how many first team runs Chris has scored but he [...]
