On a hot sunny afternoon Reed 3rd XI played Redbourn XI at Therfield cricket ground, stand in captain Alan Ward won the toss and elected to bat.
The openers Alan Ward and James Foy were surprised when Alan Ward was bowled out first ball of the innings by Smyth (1-16). James Foy being bowled shortly after put some pressure on the two new batsmen Massey Naeem and Richard Barlow (13) both batters were performing well with Naeem hitting a well earned 46 until being bowled. At 81-6 it looked like batting was the wrong decision but Karl Ward and Micheal Robertson were both at the crease they put on an excellant sixth wicket partnership of 114 with shots being played all around the ground. Unfortunatly Robertson finally fell to a fine catch just a shade short of his first ever half century. Karl Ward carried on going to get 52 not out his first ever half century. Reed ending with a total of 215-9. The pick of the Redbourn bowlers were Darvel (3-54) and Muholland (2-32). Reeds opening bowler was Jack Tidey who returned the compliments by taking a wicket first ball of the Redbourn innings and carried bowling with great line and length and finishing with figures of (4-11). An excellant all round performance of the Reed fielders an amazing one handed diving catch by Richand Barlow. Champion also chipped in with the wickets (2-10) and also Clive Collins (2-5). The last wicket was claimed by Massey Naeem who has not bowled in a few years, so off came the spider webs and he had a go claiming the last wicket to wrap up the game with Redbourne all out for 75, a comfortable victory for Reed. |
