This Cricket Conference fixture was arranged when Reed once more were able to field three elevens after finding themselves rich with available players and neighbouring club, Therfield, having a spare pitch.
After rain earlier in the week, host skipper, Mike Robertson, decided to insert the opposition on a green-looking surface after winning the toss. This was crucial. Within 20 overs, Potter’s Bar had been bowled all-out for a mere 39 runs. Only Seaman reached double figures as he top-scored with 11. Reed’s bowlers had a field day as they shared the wickets. Andrew Wholley took 2 for 11 as did the young Tom Greaves. Keiran Ward returned 3 for 8, Ed Garrott 2 for 0 and Robertson 1 for 2. Reed’s opening batsmen knocked-off the required runs within 10 overs. The much improved Matthew Bowles continued his recent good form and ended on 24 not out, whilst partner Steve Lovegrove scored 8. |
