Accurate bowling from Max Barnes early in the Reed innings and support from the Cunningham brothers meant that Reed looked very likely to be all-out for 60. Barnes dismissed both openers after they had raced along to 27 for the first wicket in only 4 overs, (Will Heald scoring 21 of them). With the score tottering along and wickets tumbling, Reed reached 56 for 8 in the 14th over. At this stage, veteran left-hander Tim Martin joined debutant Ollie Smith and between them they rallied the innings. Aiming to occupy the crease and accrue a score decent enough to defend, Smith and Martin added 31 in the next 9 overs before Smith was caught and bowled for 14. With Chatteris still very much on top, Reed at 87 for 9 then relied on Martin and Peter Baker to boost the scoring. Their partnership for the 10th wicket was 84 in 13 overs, almost doubling Reed’s total. Tim Martin reached a creditable 50, including eight fours, once he had found the middle of his Fearnley bat! The returning Barnes took Reed’s last wicket, and his fifth, (5 for 31), when he bowled Martin in the 35th over. Baker was left on 34 not out as the home side’s innings closed on 171.

Will Heald caused the breakthrough by running-out visiting skipper, Ian Rippington, when Chatteris replied. Rippington and Alex Platt had looked comfortable against the opening attack and had put-on 30 for the 1st wicket. Marcus Baker then removed Platt and Shawn Jackson and Ollie Smith each took a wicket. By this time however, Chatteris had moved on to 72 for 4 with Conner Cunningham and Oliver Fox together at the crease. Showing calmness and maturity, they carefully pick-off the runs, all the while getting closer to their target. Their job was made easier once Reed skipper Baker informed them that they had gained 4 extra overs because Reed had not used up their quota. Oliver Fox was not out on 46 when partner Connor Cunningham dispatched the ball for the winning boundary which also brought-up his own undefeated half-century.
