Reed got off to winning ways with a comfortable win over Eversholt on Saturday. Reed lost the toss and were put into the field on what looked like a batting friendly wicket. Eversholt got off to a good start in blustery conditions before Pete Tidey removed Muzawazi in the 4th over. Tidey was well supported throughout with some tight bowling from Nick Adams and Richard Jerome.

Jerome in particular, was ruthless at times and picked up 3 for 47 in 16 overs. But it was Pete Tidey who was the pick of the bowlers. Asked to repeat his recent marathon achievement, he bowled tightly for some 21 overs claiming all four of Eversholt’s top order batsman. Eversholt pushed towards a respectable score of 184 for 9 with the help of a good 57 from the young Nichols.

In reply, Reed got off to quick fire start with Baz Curtis and Tom Fulk dispatching the Eversholt bowlers to all ends of the ground. Curtis was eventually out going for one shot too many for 36. This brought Chris Jackson to the crease to partner Tom Fulk. Together they put on 65 for the 2nd wicket before Jackson was adjudged LBW for 39, with Reed requiring just 38 for victory.

Despite losing two more wickets, Tom Fulk saw the side home with some 14 overs remaining with a majestic 85 not out. Reed skipper Simon Jackson commented ‘I’m obviously delighted with today’s performance. The wicket was a belter, and I was pleased with the way we restricted Eversholt in such tough conditions. It was great to see our top order putting in a good run chase after last week’s disappointing batting performance. Tom’s innings was a pleasure to watch.’
