Latest News – 28th April

Hertfordshire League representatives have been in conference with the ECB during the last week. Their latest information sheet includes this:- "FORMAT. Since the Government have yet to indicate how and when the lockdown may be loosened, we can only speculate on what kind of season we may have at the moment. However, we do think it is important to, at least, have an exit strategy and prepare for what will inevitably be a truncated season so that all clubs will know what sort of cricket we may be playing. First of all, we have decided that there will be no cricket until at least 11th July giving us no more than half a season." ================================================================================================ To assist formulating their plans, SHPCL will be surveying Clubs for our views. We await their Questionnaire. PGB, Hon. Secretary, Reed CC

Message from the ECB re: Covid-19

The latest advice from the ECB with regard to the Coronavirus pandemic has just been received by the County and the Herts League and recommends that ALL FORMS OF RECREATIONAL CRICKET ARE FOR NOW SUSPENDED FROM TODAY 18th MARCH 2020. ======================================================================================= The ECB's message follows: Dear All, Following the Government’s latest advice around social distancing, it is with sadness and reluctance that we recommend that all forms of recreational cricket are for now suspended. This extends to training, pre-season friendlies and any associated cricket activity. Sport plays an absolutely vital role in the nation’s mental and physical wellbeing, and it helps people find meaning where there is fear and uncertainty, so one of our goals in the coming weeks will be to explore ways that we can support some levels of physical activity in communities - particularly at junior levels. Using our cricket community to support others could be one of the most important services we can offer during the difficult next few months. It will be critical that any decisions we do make are medically-led. And we will continue to work with Government and their advisors to ensure we are informed by science in our decision making. Over the coming weeks we will work with the game to understand what support is required across the cricket community, particularly local clubs and leagues. Please bear with us as decisions are being taken on a day-by-day basis relying on what central government and medical professionals advise us. So far for us at Reed CC, all remaining indoor net sessions have been cancelled and the Colts Enrolment & Awards Evening (usually in March / April) will also not take place. Adult and Colt Members, either existing or new potential recruits, are encouraged to please sign-on using the electronic forms on this website. Look for the heading, Members Area, then choose the relevant Membership Form. Clearly other social events may have to fall by the wayside and obviously at this stage we have no idea how the threat of Coronavirus might affect the extensive match programme that is due to begin in under 5 weeks, (about 130 fixtures in all). We hope and pray that we can all return to normality as soon as practicably possible but more importantly, that we all stay healthy and are not affected by the disease itself. As and when we know more, I shall keep you posted. Best wishes and take care. PGB Hon. Secretary, Reed CC.
