Big Jack bags six!

Reed welcomed Kent champions, Borstal, in the sixth round of the National Village Cup on Sunday. Batting first after losing the toss, Borstal's openers were quickly into their stride and were 34 in the sixth over with James Whitnell looking particularly threatening on 25 exhibiting some handsome drives. But it was Jack Tidey bowling uphill who struck by having Pound caught behind for 10 then Thomas Tingley clean bowled next ball for 0. Daniel Tingley followed in Tidey's next over, again caught by wicket keeper Richard Wharton for 1. Wharton went on to take three more catches, one a spectacular left handed take down the leg side off Tidey. His other catches being off Toby Fynn and Tom Greaves. By the time Jack Tidey finished his eight-over spell his figures were 6 for 21 ensuring that Borstal were beyond rescue. Mortimore had a bit of a dart at Mitchell Cooper's bowling but perished for 20 caught by Jack Caine to give Greaves his second wicket, (2 for 14), and Cooper adding a wicket of his own. Borstal all out for 83 in the 23rd over. Although aiming at a small target, Reed did not have it all their own way when both Wharton and Sean Tidey were back in hutch with only 20 on the board. Rob Lankester and James Heslam batted sensibly until Lankester failed to execute a reverse sweep and was bowled for 30 when the Reed score was on 54. Stuart Smith joined Heslam and they drew closer to the Borstal total, but with only 3 required, Smith mistimed a lofted drive and was caught at mid-on for 15.
