REMINDER ABOUT THE PRESIDENT’S DAY AND CHARITY LUNCH AUGUST 16

Dear All, PRESIDENT’S DAY AND CHARITY LUNCH AUGUST 16. President’s Day is looming fast, now only 2 weeks away, and arrangements are progressing satisfactorily towards what we all hope will be an enjoyable day. Our captains, Marcus Martin and James Heslam are busy cogitating over their team selections, to ensure an exciting day’s cricket between two evenly matched sides. HOWEVER, numbers for the Charity Lunch are lagging behind somewhat, and the purpose of this letter is to remind everyone of the need to let me know URGENTLY if you wish to attend. I have to inform our caterers of final numbers by the end of next week at the latest, and at present our acceptances are down on previous years. For your £25:00 you receive a superb 4 course meal prepared by Capers Catering (probably the finest catering company in the Herts/Beds/Cambs region), together with the opportunity to win one of the superb raffle prizes! Fine wines have been sourced at modest prices, and of course, the contents of the Club bar will be available as usual. Because of the limited availability of places, I may have omitted to contact some of you, initially, for fear of being unable to fit everyone in, but as the situation stands at present, I would welcome a further 25 diners. Thanks for your attention - PLEASE let me know as soon as possible. Remember, the purpose of the lunch is to raise sufficient funds to hold a heart screening event at Reed for all young people in this area! Andrew Andrew Emms-President. President’s Day 2015

This year, President’s Day will take place on Sunday, 16th August 2015 at Reed Village Green, commencing at 11am. The format, as before, will be similar to 2014, 50 overs per side; the teams will be captained by Marcus Martin and James Heslam. Marcus has played for the Club from the Colts right through to the 1st XI; now steering the “2nd’s to successive promotions, he is an integral component of the Reed ‘set-up’ both on and off the pitch. James will complete his 8th year as Club Captain this season, following which he will enjoy a well deserved rest from the pressures that come with the Captaincy. The match is scheduled to last all day, the Village Green, thanks to our Groundsman Richard Robertson, will look a picture and we hope for a sunny day! A barbecue will run from mid-afternoon, and the Club bar will be open for refreshments, as usual; there is a safe playground on the opposite side of the Green, and there may be a paddling pool to keep the toddlers happy, if not clean! Alongside all of the above, I will be hosting a Charity Luncheon, again this year in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young. The reason for repeating C.R.Y. is that we are aiming to raise sufficient funds to hold a screening day at the Clubhouse to which all youngsters-especially those involved in sport, will be invited. C.R.Y., apart from many other support services and research, funds screening programmes which will diagnose previously undetected heart problems in the young. Two of our dearest friends have each lost a child following a collapse at their place of work, and there have been several more well documented cases [...]
