This year, President’s Day will take place on Sunday, 16th August 2015 at Reed Village Green, commencing at 11am. The format, as before, will be similar to 2014, 50 overs per side; the teams will be captained by Marcus Martin and James Heslam. Marcus has played for the Club from the Colts right through to the 1st XI; now steering the “2nd’s to successive promotions, he is an integral component of the Reed ‘set-up’ both on and off the pitch. James will complete his 8th year as Club Captain this season, following which he will enjoy a well deserved rest from the pressures that come with the Captaincy.

The match is scheduled to last all day, the Village Green, thanks to our Groundsman Richard Robertson, will look a picture and we hope for a sunny day! A barbecue will run from mid-afternoon, and the Club bar will be open for refreshments, as usual; there is a safe playground on the opposite side of the Green, and there may be a paddling pool to keep the toddlers happy, if not clean!

Alongside all of the above, I will be hosting a Charity Luncheon, again this year in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young. The reason for repeating C.R.Y. is that we are aiming to raise sufficient funds to hold a screening day at the Clubhouse to which all youngsters-especially those involved in sport, will be invited. C.R.Y., apart from many other support services and research, funds screening programmes which will diagnose previously undetected heart problems in the young.

Two of our dearest friends have each lost a child following a collapse at their place of work, and there have been several more well documented cases reported in the Press recently. As we are surrounded by young people here at Reed CC, it is hoped that today will provide much needed funds to assist the financing of one of these mobile screenings(for further information go to www.c-r-y.org.uk/aims.htm). Rarely does a screening fail to detect at least one person with a heart abnormality, so the need is great and urgent!

HOWEVER, the cost of staging the screening day is approximately £4500:00. We have £1000:00 in our ‘kitty’ from 2014, but as you can see, we have a long way to go! I know that we will achieve our target eventually, especially with your help.

So, please do come along and support the Club, make a day of it, and pray for good weather, yet again! I look forward to hearing from you, and welcoming you on the 16th! Please use the contact form to book a place at the charity 4 course lunch. Only 55 places available so book early.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Emms-President.
