Fynn-tastic Reed

Toby Fynn produced a superb spell of bowling to keep Reed well placed in 2nd in the Hertfordshire Championship. After rain later in the week, Reed skipper James Heslam had no hesitation in winning the toss and choosing to bowl against 2nd bottom Old Finchleians at the Reed Green. The wicket offered some seam movement but was still a good cricket wicket. However Toby Fynn and Jack Tidey produced an excellent opening partnership. Fynn this week though was the destroyer bowling with pace and seam. Helped by some excellent catching behind the stumps by Sean Tidey, Heslam and Garrott, Fynn soon had Old Finchleians in serious trouble at 15-5. The pressure was relentless from the Reed bowlers and fielders and the visitors subsided to 29 all out, a club record for Reed in terms of bowling out an opposition extraordinarily before Lunch in the new format of the Hertfordshire Championship. Fynn ended up with amazing figures of 7-7-7 and Tidey 8-16-2 in support. In reply Reed easily knocked off the 30 runs required to win with Sam Fairbrother leading the way with a fluent 22 not out. Reed have a big weekend ahead where they take on 1st placed Hertford on the Saturday where the Reed side will be hoping to take a big step to securing 2nd place by getting their 7th league win in a row before Sunday’s National Village Cup Quarter Final at Reed vs Southern area winners Dinton CC.
