Headlines – 30th / 31st May

In their respective victories, half-centuries were registered by Rhoddri Hughes, (4th XI), Richard Barlow, (3rd XI), Marcus Martin & Jack Caine, (both 2nd XI). Unfortunately, the 1st XI lost their home fixture to Totteridge Millhillians. Earlier in the week, the First XI beat Sawbridgeworth comfortably in the Herts 20/20 Cup, winning with 8 wickets in-hand with more than 4 overs to spare. Reed are top of the Group B table with 1 match to play before the Quarter Finals. Thriplow conceded their Keatley Cup match to Reed on Wednesday. Reed's 1st XI beat Datchworth (away) on Sunday in the National Village Cup. Alex Mutucumarana took 7 wickets (including 5 in 5 deliveries and 6 in 7), as Datchworth fell for just 63. In round 4 on the 14th June, Reed are scheduled to play Langleybury at home. The Home match against Ashwell on Sunday was cancelled because of the weather. Expect Match Reports to follow shortly. Keatley Cup competition 2015

Clubs participating: Cokenach, Foxton, Reed, Royston and Thriplow. Format: Each club will play the others once with the top two in the table playing each other in a Final. Matches are 16 Overs per side. Matches to start at 1815hrs or earlier if mutually convenient. Points system: 12 Points for a Win; 6 Points each for a Tie; 6 Points each if a match is abandoned and not able to be re-played (for example, weather conditions). Losing Teams only: Batting bonus points awarded at 60, 100 and 140 runs. Bowling bonus points awarded at 3, 6 and 9 wickets. Fixtures, (Home side listed first): Week commencing 25th May Cokenach v Royston Reed v Thriplow Week commencing 1st June Foxton v Thriplow Reed v Royston Week commencing 8th June Foxton v Reed Thriplow v Cokenach Week commencing 15th June Royston v Foxton Reed v Cokenach Week commencing 22nd June Cokenach v Foxton Royston v Thriplow Specific dates for the round-robin fixtures to be arranged between the clubs involved. Reed’s first match is Home at Thriplow on Wednesday 27th May. Because of injury to the elected captain, William Heslam, Reed’s Mid-Week XI will be led by Sean Tidey. Reed at home versus Royston will be on Wednesday 3rd June. Reserve space to re-arrange abandoned or postponed matches will be between 29th June and 10th July. Headlines – 23rd / 24th May

The Firsts were well-short chasing Botany Bay's 214 for 2 and losing by 74 runs and slip to 5th position in the Championship. The Seconds imploded from 82 for 2 to 88 all-out at home versus Ickleford leaving them in 6th position in Div 5B. Great Gaddesden had just 1 wicket intact as they managed to chase-down the Third XI's total of 163 for 8. The Thirds are now 7th in Div 8A. The Fourths had an exciting 7-run victory at the Freman Oval against Datchworth when 16-year-old Zac Conley scored his maiden century with 118 and supported by Kieren Willoughby, (62), took Reed to 266 for 5. The Fourths are unbeaten in the the League and are in joint first position. The guests on Sunday at Reed were Fives CC from Southgate. Disciplined bowling restricted the hosts to 182 for 8 which was in danger of being overhauled until Marcus Martin chipped away with 3 wickets giving Reed a win by 39 runs. Headlines – 16th / 17th May

A superb win for the 1st XI as they chased-down West Herts's total of 226 inside 40 overs with 6 wickets in-hand. The equally convincing Second XI (260) beat Wheathampstead by 168 runs in Division 5B. The Thirds lost to Harpenden at the Freman Oval and were all-out for 159 in their quest for 269. The Fourth XI had a "league-free" Saturday so a Conference fixture was played away against Aztecs CC in Barkingside. Unfortunately, the hosts were too strong and scored 251 for 5. Jet-lagged Reed managed only 75 in reply. Opponents Old Owens withdrew from the National Village Cup match on Sunday leaving Reed 1st XI through to the next round without playing any games so far. The Sunday Friendly XI match away to Cheshunt did not take place. PGB

Headlines, 9th / 10th May

A great start for all four League XIs. 120 Points in the bag. Total Runs for, 897 Total Runs against, 467 Total Wickets lost, 31 Total Wickets taken, 39. And making it five-out-of-five for the weekend, the Sunday XI won by their Friendly versus Woodcutters by 6 runs too. Reed: 1063 for 39 The Rest: 627 for 49. Expect Match reports to follow soon.

Headlines – 25th / 26th April

The Saturday Firsts did not score enough runs to prevent Preston winning a friendly at Reed. Phil Lill reached the forties. Meanwhile, ton-up Phil Frenay and Richard Johnson (78) notched-up 203 in partnership at the Freman College Oval in a win over Braughing by 100 runs. Alex Kelly took 4 wickets as Braughing were all-out for 177. Finally, Mitchell Cooper scored 80 and Sean Tidey 75 not out chasing 169 in a friendly at Preston on a cold and damp Sunday. As you all ought to be aware Club Membership Subscriptions for any calendar year are technically due on the 1st of JANUARY each year. At last Novembers AGM the issue of Annual Subscription Levels, and some individuals frequent late payments, was thoroughly discussed. As a result of this discussion the formal Adult and Junior Playing Subscriptions were both increased substantially. The 2015 Cricket Season is about to start for Reed CC.

Reed Cricket Club has been gearing-up in anticipation for the new season with both Adults’ and Colts’ sections practicing indoors since January. Putting-out 4 teams in the Saracens Hertfordshire Premier Cricket League on Saturdays, two Sunday teams and fulfilling fixtures for Colts playing in the Cambridgeshire Young Cricketers Association Leagues at Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 age groups there will be more than 150 matches to be played by September. It’s a busy time for Fixtures’ Secretary and Colts Liaison Officer, Peter Wholley, who said, “Cricket clubs must find young players and inspire them to develop their full potential and Reed CC welcomes any young boys or girls to join the Colts’ section. Reed is an ECB Focus Club with Clubmark accreditation with a dozen ECB qualified coaches to supervise practices.” Newly-elected Fourth XI Captain, Lloyd Bowman added “As the Colts progress to senior teams at weekends, they benefit from more competitive matches, playing alongside and against adults and more experienced players and developing their skills.” He is looking forward to the challenges of leadership and is impressed by the talent and preparation by the players and has high hopes of promotion. Now recognised by the ECB as a Premier League in its own right, the Hertfordshire League has re-structured this year and matches have two different playing formats. Divisions now have 10 teams with each team playing the others in Home and Away fixtures. Additionally, there will be fielding restrictions and limits on the amount of overs bowlers are allowed to deliver. Marcus Martin has been the captain of Reed’s Second XI for two years and in both seasons has guided them to promotion as divisional winners so that they now sit [...]

Colts Open Day
