Coach Education 2017-2018

MESSAGE FROM HERTFORDSHIRE CRICKET LIMITED. Hertfordshire Cricket, in partnership with Essex Cricket and Cambridgeshire Cricket, is delighted to be once again offering an extensive Coach Education Programme in 2017-2018. For full details of the courses, venues, dates, times, length of course and cost, please visit the News Page of www.hertscricket.org We are committed to delivering a top-class experience for all candidates with the ultimate aim of inspiring the coaches that we train to pass on a love of the game to the youngsters that will last a lifetime. As in previous years, the ECB Coach Education courses allow coaches to train specifically for the age of player that they will be working with. There are courses in ‘Coaching Young People and Adults’, aimed at coaches who will be working mainly with players aged 13 and above, and in ‘Coaching Children’, aimed at coaches who will be working with players aged below 13. Initial support worker courses and CPD Modules are also available. As the names suggest, the content of these courses are specific to the players with whom the coaches will be mostly working, although coaches can, of course, train in both specialisms. In order to make sure that you select the correct course for yourself, when booking on - please make sure you read the course descriptions, commitment and Pre-requisites that are required. For further information about the coach education programme, please check out the website www.hertscricket.org Courses in Hertfordshire are part of the 'East Region Coach Education Programme' which includes Hertfordshire Cricket, Essex Cricket, Cambridgeshire Cricket under the auspices of the certificating bodies, 1st4Sport and ECB.

Headlines; Week ending 13th August

SATURDAY: For those of a certain age, the cricket vernacular referred to as a "Michelle", (Shane Warne often says it), means Pfeiffer, (as in the actress, Michelle Pfeiffer). For those of a younger generation, Pfeiffer rhymes with five-for. And there were two Reed players who had "Michelles" today. Alex Kelley took 5 wickets over at West Herts when the 2nds overhauled their target of 210 with 2 wickets intact. Matt Sampson scored 77 and Marcus Martin 42. By the end of the day, the Seconds were in 4th position in Division 4B. Meanwhile at the Freman Oval, the arguably most talented of the Hughes family, father Steve, took an amazing 5 for 23 as Hatfield Hyde were toppled for 122. The Thirds took their time but MJE Baker saw them home with an undefeated fifty when they won by 5 wickets. The 3rds regain 6th position in Division 9A. At a very green Green, thanks to the mid-week rain, the Firsts had a bit of an "After the Lord Mayor's Show" type of game. Batting first, Reed managed to reach a lowly 143 all out after being 50 for 1 at one stage. Ed Wharton made 35 and Sean Tidey 33. But this wasn't enough; Hoddesdon faced a massive amount of "dot balls", but still won comfortably, with overs in hand, by 4 wickets. Consequently, Reed have slipped from first place in the Championship to third as both Hoddesdon and West Herts leapfrogged them. SUNDAY: Club President, Andrew Emms, together with his wife Carol, hosted a lunch in aid of Parkinson's UK with donations directed towards research. Michelle Henderson from the organisation gave a very informative talk about the progress made into research into Parkinson's and [...]

Headlines; Week ending 6th August

SUNDAY: Main headlines of the week clearly are that Reed beat Aston Rowant by 74 runs, (179 for 9 plays 105 all out),in the Semi-Final of the National Village Cup at Reed. The Final will be on Sunday 17th September at the headquarters of cricket, Lord's Cricket Ground. See you there! SATURDAY: The First team won by 5 wickets at Botany Bay when they chased the hosts' 161 all out. Mitchell Cooper took 5 for 29. Ed Wharton was put up the order and scored 61 whilst Rob Lankester was 45 not out as Reed romped home in 30 overs. Reed now top the table, 14 points clear of second-placed Hoddesdon. At the Pond, I mean the Green, the Seconds had their third successive fixture ruined by rain. After a delayed start, Reed managed to bowl only 4 overs before a further downpour made the ground unplayable. Broxbourne were 10 for 1; the wicket falling to Karl Ward. Reed's Third XI contained a strong line-up this week, but nevertheless Mill Hill Village just edged it by 7 runs. Rich Barlow batted well after Joe Graves and Steve Hughes had contributed to MHV being restricted to only 142 for 7 in their full 53 overs. Even so, Reed were bowled out for 135. This week was the end of the series of "Timed" matches. The final 4 fixtures in the programme will be back to the 50/50 limited overs format. Expect Match Reports to follow shortly. PGB

Performance of the Round – Sean Tidey

In each round of the 2017 National Village Cup Gunn & Moore sponsor an award for the Performance of the Round. In the Quarter-Finals, the spotlight fell on Reed's victorious visit to Bledlow Village. Sean Tidey and his big brother Jack both made decisive contributions. Taking the new ball, Jack took 5 for 21 as Bledlow were bowled out for 85 chasing 227. However, the organisers, The Cricketer magazine, chose Sean for Performance of the Round. His special knock of 75 runs off 44 deliveries changed the pace of the Reed innings and let them post the competitive total of 227. He then bowled his 8 overs for 20 runs, taking the crucial wicket of Harry Bartlett who had scored 140 in the previous round. This is what Sean had to say about his performance and Reed’s chances in the Semi-Finals. "At this stage of the tournament you have to be backing yourself. We have beaten a few good teams on the way to the semi-final. The chance to play at Lord's again is an additional incentive too. Greavesie (our skipper) pushed me up from number 8 to 5 and gave me instructions to play my shots. I’d like to think the pace of my innings, and partnership with James Heslam put us in control. Later, Jack bowled exceptionally and obviously picking up five wickets in 7 overs put us on top! Reed always takes the NVC seriously as we know that the chance to get to play at Lord’s is one that doesn’t come very often. We won the Cup in 2012 and playing at Lord’s once just makes you want to go back again! We have played in the competition since it began [...]

As all the other matches in the Championship were rained-off, Reed grabbed the chance to gain 30 points and currently are in second position, only 4 points behind West Herts. In the double-header, Ampthill were 7 wickets down for 70 but recovered to 167 for 7 by the end. Toby Fynn, playing his first game back from injury, took 4 of the wickets.
