Keatley Cup Final 1984

Keatley Cup Final 1984 REED STORM TO KEATLEY VICTORY --- but Sabey wins 'Man of the Match' award Foxton 112-6 Reed 113-6Reed lifted the Keatley Cup for the second year running on Tuesday evening when they beat Foxton in a nail-biting finish. The North Herts League side appeared to be coasting to victory when Brian Bevan and Michael Jackson put together a useful opening stand. But when Jackson departed for 15 and John Heslam was caught behind for 2, Foxton seemed to have gained a chance for victory. But the vital breakthrough came when Bevan skied a shot and wicket-keeper Perett ran several yard to collect it safely -- Reed's top scorer was gone for 36. Reed's target of 113 now looked a long way off but the two Richards, Apperley and Robertson came together to get the winning runs and give Reed victory by four wicket margins with just one over to spare. Earlier, Foxton had scored 112 mainly due to a superb innings of 55 from Nigel Sabey, which also earned his side some consolation as his score earned him the man of the match award from adjudicator, Bob Wilson.
