4. To confer Life Membership.
At its November meeting, the Club’s General Committee had agreed to the proposal from Peter Baker, seconded by Bethan Smith to confer Life Membership of the Club on Richard Robertson to acknowledge his outstanding contribution to the Club dating back to 1981. Richard has put in thousands of hours preparing pitches for many years, but has also played significant roles in the club’s various teams, as a successful Colts manager and Committee member. He thoroughly deserves this award.
5. Any Other Business.
Peter Wholley clarified that, without an appointed secretary, he would be required to stand in for any Executive Committee meetings.
Richard Robertson reminded everyone that the four trustees: himself, Peter Lawrence, Steve Dunn and Stuart Smith are responsible for the Club and any issues members may have can be addressed to one of them.
Tom Greaves thanked Matt Bowles for his work in encouraging players to turn out, which contributed to the 3rds promotion success. He asked members to look out for new recruits as we must strengthen our playing staff with the 1st XI in both the Championship and the Village Cup next season. A bid for an overseas player will also be made.
Stuart Smith sounded an optimistic note that our youth squads are developing well and becoming old enough to play adult cricket. However, he was disappointed that fewer than half of those who voted in the ballot were players and only a handful had attended the AGM or helped behind the scenes.
This sentiment was echoed by Chris Jackson and Richard Robertson advised that blanket WhatsApp requests usually fell on deaf ears. He suggested that direct telephone calls made people feel more valued, a point echoed by Matt Bowles when recruiting for weekend teams. Face to face requests were also effective. Kieran McKinna said that advertising for volunteers should be done well in advance before other commitments were made.
Stuart Smith closed the AGM by thanking all attendees and was optimistic that the new season would be played in more enjoyable circumstances.
The Meeting closed at 2032hrs.
