Reed Under 9s who hadn’t won since early May got back to winning ways on Friday evening at home to North Enfield. The whole focus of the team is for enjoyment, improving the young players, giving all players games which does mean continual rotation of the players.

After winning the toss Josh (9) and Seb (14) got Reed off to the normal good start with them taking us to 236 at the end of 4 over despite losing a wicket on the last ball of the pair. Our middle order of Frankie, Poppy, Isaac (making debut at 6 years old) and Toby set us up for a great platform for Jack (21) and William (17) to take the game to North Enfield and smash the ball all over Reed, giving Reed a total of 307-3 net – which was our highest score of the season and importantly the least amount of wickets we had lost.

All Reed bowlers bowled well and tight and we bowled the least amount of wides we had done in a game. Poppy and Frankie have progressed massively over the season and despite going wicketless they only went for 10 and 7 runs in their 2 overs. However the game changed in the 8th over of the innings when Seb (3 for 8) got a superbly bowled hat-trick. Then in over 15 Josh (3 for 8) got 2 wickets in an over.

Coach Simon Jackson was “…. so pleased with the performance and the improvement the players have made in all parts of the cricket game over the season. Each game we always have some stand out batting and bowling which is always great to see but at the same time it is really good to see the young players understanding the spirit of cricket. We always try to clap the opposition and today we had players fielding for the opposition to help them out. I also asked Toby as an experienced player (in his third game!) to take his batting partner, young Isaac, under his wing (with him being 6 and making his debut) and he looked after him throughout the game, even in the field.”
