Coronavirus and Reed CC – Temporary measures

Sent on behalf of Reed Cricket Club General Committee. ===================================================================================== The Cricket Club will still have bills to pay during this crisis and there will be a lack of income from Subscriptions, the Bar and Match fees, etc., which will have an affect on our financial well-being. Therefore, your Committee has decided to ask you the following about Membership Subscriptions. Donation: We are appealing to you to please consider donating a sum up to a figure of £25 in lieu of your Membership Subscription. This will be your contribution to the Club to help us keep it running in these first few months of the summer. We cannot impose making a donation on you, but we do invite you to. Already paid? Some of you have already paid the full Subscription, either as Player or Non-Playing Member. Should you want a refund of all or part of your Subs, please contact the Treasurer, Bethan Smith on 01763 260446, to work out details whether you wish the Club to retain part as your donation, or to be refunded the full amount. Later: If we are lucky enough to fulfil any fixtures later in the summer, we will revisit this subject and make adjustments as necessary. I shall leave it for you to make your own decisions whether to make donation or not. Membership Form: However, we do require ALL existing Members to please complete and submit a Membership Form. An electronic version can be found in the Members Area of the Club’s website, www.reedcricketclub.co.uk This is necessary so that you are covered by insurance and complies with Data Protection Regulations. Please direct any queries to Cilla Robertson on 07852 299719 if you have any. General Meeting [...]

Through the lens at Lord’s: A Photographer’s Eye View

The 2020 Fixture Card will not now be published, (well, certainly not in its original format)! Here is an article I asked Ann & Paul Garrott to write describing their day in the September sunshine at Lord's. ******************************************************************************************** On a glorious sunny mid-September morning, we arrived at Lord’s, the home of cricket. Reed CC had once again made it to this illustrious, iconic venue to challenge Houghton Main for the National Village Cup trophy. Ann and I were honoured to have been asked to take charge of the photography for the day, as we had done two years ago. We waited at the Grace Gates for the Reed players to arrive. Skipper Tom Greaves, followed by the rest of the team made their way through the turnstiles and past security. There was nervous excitement etched across their faces, reality of where they were and the day that lay ahead. The glistening replica World Cup near the entrance acting as a symbol of what had been and could be achieved. The supporters arrived soon after and it was surreal seeing people that are normally seen wandering around the boundary at Reed (the second home of cricket!) queuing with their picnic hampers to come to show their support. Having access into the pavilion was an honour in itself; to climb the stairs that the great and good have climbed and not feel daunted by Viv Richards staring down at you from the wall. To see “Reed CC” proudly displayed outside the changing room near a portrait of Ian Botham was another ‘pinch yourself’ moment. The view from the balcony could not have been more perfect, with the sun beaming down on the hallowed turf. The iconic Father [...]

Message from the ECB re: Covid-19

The latest advice from the ECB with regard to the Coronavirus pandemic has just been received by the County and the Herts League and recommends that ALL FORMS OF RECREATIONAL CRICKET ARE FOR NOW SUSPENDED FROM TODAY 18th MARCH 2020. ======================================================================================= The ECB's message follows: Dear All, Following the Government’s latest advice around social distancing, it is with sadness and reluctance that we recommend that all forms of recreational cricket are for now suspended. This extends to training, pre-season friendlies and any associated cricket activity. Sport plays an absolutely vital role in the nation’s mental and physical wellbeing, and it helps people find meaning where there is fear and uncertainty, so one of our goals in the coming weeks will be to explore ways that we can support some levels of physical activity in communities - particularly at junior levels. Using our cricket community to support others could be one of the most important services we can offer during the difficult next few months. It will be critical that any decisions we do make are medically-led. And we will continue to work with Government and their advisors to ensure we are informed by science in our decision making. Over the coming weeks we will work with the game to understand what support is required across the cricket community, particularly local clubs and leagues. We understand that countless hours of work from thousands of volunteers have already gone into getting ready for the 2020 season and we know how disappointing this will be. We are thankful for the huge role that volunteers play in local cricket, to ensure the game remains at the heart of communities. We know that you and your clubs can play an [...]

News message

Please bear with us as decisions are being taken on a day-by-day basis relying on what central government and medical professionals advise us. So far for us at Reed CC, all remaining indoor net sessions have been cancelled and the Colts Enrolment & Awards Evening (usually in March / April) will also not take place. Adult and Colt Members, either existing or new potential recruits, are encouraged to please sign-on using the electronic forms on this website. Look for the heading, Members Area, then choose the relevant Membership Form. Clearly other social events may have to fall by the wayside and obviously at this stage we have no idea how the threat of Coronavirus might affect the extensive match programme that is due to begin in under 5 weeks, (about 130 fixtures in all). We hope and pray that we can all return to normality as soon as practicably possible but more importantly, that we all stay healthy and are not affected by the disease itself. As and when we know more, I shall keep you posted. Best wishes and take care. PGB Hon. Secretary, Reed CC.
