For those of you unable to go to Lord’s for The Cricketer National Village Cup Final tomorrow, you may be interested to know that MCC will be providing live audio ball-by-ball commentary of the match.

Also, BBC London is keen to film at Lord’s on Sunday and follow Reed’s day too.

If you didn’t manage to hear Tom Greaves on BBC Three Counties Radio yesterday morning, the programme remains on SOUNDS on the BBC website. Search for the Andy Collins show and his interview with Tom begins at 1 hour 39 minutes and 32 seconds from the start of the programme.

Similarly, Tom and Jack Tidey were interviewed on BBC Look East (West) in a three-minute segment of the programme filmed at Reed last night. That can be found on BBC iPlayer at 21 minutes and 48 seconds into the show. Make sure it is the Look East (WEST) programme. Where I live, I get Look East (EAST) and had to watch stock car racing from King’s Lynn instead! It indicates that this programme is available only until 1900hrs on Saturday the 14th September, so if you wanted to watch or download it, don’t delay doing so.

You will probably know by now that Reed Cricket Club’s 1st XI have beaten off all their rivals this season and will be contesting the Final of the National Village Cricket Championship, (a.k.a. The National Village Cup). This year, the organisers, are attaching their own title to the competition, it is The Cricketer Village Cup.

Arrangements are well-advanced in preparation for the players in the squad to arrive in the evening before the match which is on Sunday 15th September at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Here is some information that might be helpful to you if you are thinking of travelling to the iconic “Home of Cricket” for this history-making fixture. It will be Reed’s third appearance in the Final after their previous victories in 2012 and 2017. We hope that you can come with us. The match will begin at 1100hrs.

Coach 3. Pick-up in Buntingford High Street, opposite St Peter’s Church on Market Hill, at 0830hrs.

After the match, the coaches will depart at 1800hrs from the North Gate of Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The cost of a return ticket will be £10 per person and payment must be received by 30th August.

RULES FOR COACH TRAVEL WE WISH YOU TO NOTE AND ABIDE BY, PLEASE:

No alcohol to be consumed on the coach.

U16’s must be accompanied by a parent / carer.

BY RAIL:

You may wish to consult National Rail Enquiries before you travel by train. Their website is: www.nationalrail.co.uk

In the box at the bottom you will see ‘Changes to train times’. Click on ‘Future engineering works’ and enter the date to see if your route will be affected.

Engineering work will take place between Stevenage & Peterborough and Stevenage & Royston closing all lines until 0845hrs on Sunday 15th September. Replacement buses will run between Stevenage and Peterborough / Royston.

—————————————————————————-

BY TUBE / BUS:

St John’s Wood (Jubilee line) is the closest tube station to Lord’s. Baker Street, Warwick Avenue, Marylebone and Edgware Road are all within 15 minutes’ walk.

Anyone intending to use the Tube should check the TfL website for information (which is available ahead of time) as to where weekend maintenance work is planned.
—————————————————————————-

BY ROAD:

Look at the website en.parkopedia.co.uk to see which surrounding roads are available for free on-street parking on Sundays. Fill-in the date then click on the TAB along the bottom for STREET.

It is legitimate to park on Sundays without either paying or incurring a penalty on normal pay-to-park bays and most Residents-only bays, (check the individual signs of course but they are generally applicable only on Mondays to Fridays).

AT LORD’S:

The match is scheduled to begin at 1100hrs. It will be 40 overs per side (unless weather intervenes).

General Ground Admission Tickets cannot be bought on-line but are available only on the gate: Adults £15, Over 65s £7.50 and Under 16s £5 (babies and children of two years of age or under are free).

Coaches parties should be dropped-off at the Grace Gate.

The North Gate entrance will be closed.
Although it is at the Nursery end of the ground in Wellington Place, (junction with Wellington Road), and is closest to St John’s Wood tube station, the North Gate cannot be used because of re-development of the Compton and Edrich Stands. This means that all access to the Ground is through the Grace Gate only. Pedestrians travelling by tube from St John’s Wood station will have further to walk down Wellington Road then along St John’s Wood Road to the Grace Gate which is in the south-western corner of Lord’s.

I have also found that many of the queries you may have can be answered by visiting
www.lords.org
Then choosing “Visiting” and clicking on “Frequently Asked Questions”.
For example, Lord’s is the only international cricket venue in the world where spectators can bring their own alcohol into the ground. Effectively, this is either 2 pints of beer or 1 bottle of wine per person. Anything outside these restrictions will be confiscated.

Also, fancy dress, banners & flags and musical instruments are not allowed.

There is a strict Dress Code for persons entering the pavilion which by not open to the general public.

Attractions at the ground include a BOLA Bowling Machine Masterclass. If Club members / children wish to take part in this then please bring suitable sports clothing.
There are many refreshment outlets and picnic facilities inside the ground.
—————————————————————————-
BEHAVIOUR:
The expectation is that all parties will behave in a manner befitting of the final at all times on the day. Entering the playing area during the tea interval and following the conclusion of the game will be by invitation only by MCC. Listen out for the public address system. Player and spectator safety and security is of paramount importance.
—————————————————————————-
SUPPORTERS’ CLOTHING:
Cilla Robertson is also taking orders for corporate Navy Blue Polo Shirts carrying the Reed CC logo at £15 each. Please contact Cilla on cilla@richardandcilla.co.uk to order yours.
Sizes available: S, M, L, XL, XXL.
Shirts are now available for collection from Cilla.

MEDIA:
We hope that at least part of the Final will be broadcast and we await confirmation which platform that will be on. We expect that Matthew Bowles may be let loose on the microphone for a short period of commentary!

Commentary will be on Live Sports FM www.livesportsfm.co.uk

BBC Look East are looking at hosting the sports section of the Friday night local news at our club! They will interview a few of the players and be speaking about Lord’s. They would like to run the show with a training session being the back drop, so everyone that can, please attend a massive training session from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Friday evening. Not only will this be a great chance to showcase the club and potentially attract more members it will also be a great help to the players.
