Reed won the toss and decided to bat on a grassy fluffy wicket.
They lost an early wicket with the score on just 13. When Baz Curtis
was removed for 27 Reed were 44-2 which quickly became 51-3 in the
13th over. Reed needed someone to get there head doen and bat through
the innings. The found just the man in Peter Morley. He batted the
whole innings but 3 overs. In the process he scored an unbeaten 89,
including 14 boundaries. Only Jason Nolan with 10 and Simon Jackson
with 20 got in to double figures. Reed were bowled out for 193.
Baldock’s innings was very simular to Reed’s. Theirs was based on
64 from Williamson and 51 nout out by Bentley. All the bowlers
chipped in. There was also a welcome return to the bowling line up of
spinner Simon Jackson who took 2 vital wickets in the middle of the
innings. Peter Tidey took 3-71 and Martin Seale 2-33. The game swung
backwards and forwards. Baldock looked to be cruising, but with
Tidey’s late burst Reed were back in it. With 20 needed to win John
Pemberton sent Lemoir’s off stump out of the ground and Reed looked
set for victory, but it was not to be. In the end Baldock scrapped
home by 1 wicket, but Reed did pick up 17 vital points.
