Reed won the toss and decided to bat in this friendly game against
Wormley. Reed were quickly 7-1, but Peter Morley and Mark Peart
rebuilt the innings before Morley was caught for 9 with the score on
40. This was to bring Simon Roberts together and the start of a stand
of 171. Both Roberts and Peart hit the ball to all parts of the
ground. A mixture of good running and quality stroke play kept the
runs flowing. Peart stroked 7 4s in his 76 and Roberts smashed 10 4s
and 1 6 on the way to 102. Both overcame the problem of having to
come off numerous times for rain. They were both unbeaten as Reed
posted 211-2.
In reply Reed quickly had Wormley in trouble. Both Ian Roberts and
Martin Seale got in to the Wormley batting. Roberts picked up 2 of
the first 3 wickets to fall. Between them they had Wormley 25-3. When
Wormley became 54-4 it looked like Reed had done the hard work. Then
Wormley put on 82 for the 5th wicket before Scott Rouse bowled Uwins
for 66. Martin Seale came back into the attack and managed to stop
the runs flowing putting Wormley behind the run rate. Phil Divers was
bowling well at the other end too and forced McCarthy into going over
the top and he was well held in the deep by Simon Roberts. Seale
picked up 3 more wickets leaving him with figures of 4-31 from 12
overs. In the end Reed couldn’t get the last man out and Wormley were
9 down for 192 and the match was drawn.
