After losing the toss Reed’s bowlers put them selves in a good
position to get a win in their latest league game. John Pemberton
bowled with pace and aggression and soon had the wicket of Dean for
2. Pemberton returned the figures of 1-19 from 7 overs. He was well
supported by Martin Seale. He bowled unchanged for 16 overs. He
picked up 2 wickets for 57 runs and was unlucky to have a couple of
catches dropped. Richard Robertson replaced Seale and he bowled a
very nagging length and was hard to get away. He had the batsmen tied
down and frustrated them. Jamie Warren took a superb slip catch off
Robertson but in the process tore a muscle and had to leave the
field. Luckily Reed could call on their twelfth man James Foy.
Robertson took 3-55 in his 20 overs. Ian Roberts also bowled well
picking up 2-40 from 10 overs. It was unfortunate that Reed gave away
15 runs off the last over sod so were set 202 to win in 47 overs.

Reed got off to a cracking start putting on Reed’s first century opening start of the season. Despite some negative field placing, Baz Curtis and Peter Morley managed to get the scoreboard ticking. Curtis smashed 11 4s on his way to 63 while Morley played the anchor roll with 22. Morley was the first to go when the score was on 102, but Curtis followed with only 1 run more added to the total. Reed needed 100 runs in 20 overs. Reed now lost their way and collapsed to 129-6. Things looked brighter when Richard Robertson took a liking to spinner Lawler and smashed 24, but when he was bowled Reed were 157-7 and needed 40 in five overs. Jamie Warren left the treatment room and with the help of a runner Simon Jackson went out to bat and joined John Pemberton. The three of them managed to pick up boundaries and with some good running got Reed with in sticking distance. Reed needed 26 off 12 ball and 17 off 6. 12 was required off 3 and Warren managed to smash 2 fours, but couldn’t get hold of the last ball and Reed ended up 3 runs short. Pemberton was left 21 not out and Warren was 24 not out.
