SATURDAY (SHPCL): Not a result we see so often these days, Reed Firsts registered a Draw in their final "Timed Match" of the season chasing Flitwick's 259 for 7, (2 wickets each for Jack Tidey and Zac McGuigan), they ended on 205 for 4 (Ed Wharton 55, Matt Sampson 40 not out and Zac McGuigan 37). Next week it will be back to the blue kit and the last four 50 overs-a-side matches. Reed are in 3rd position with promotion still a realistic aim. Twin Tons at Stevenage in the Second XI game when Reed racked-up 313 for 3. Chris Jackson and James Sandford both scored centuries after Rich Barlow (24) and Phil Frenay (43) set up a solid platform. Martin Bros Incorporated (Marcus and Rupert) took 2 wickets apiece as Stevenage were restricted to 170 for 8. Reed are 13 points clear at the top of Division 4B. The Thirds lost at Holtwhites Trinibis who made 248 for 6 thanks to some dropped catches. Owen Hughes scored his maiden fifty backed-up by George Garrott's 48 in the reply, but Reed were eventually bowled all out for 216. However, a promotion place is still in their sights. Expect Match Reports to follow shortly. President's Day: The President's Day match was a 9-a-side game between Orwell FC and a Reed IX. It was meant to be a two-innings, 16 over-a-side "test" match. Unfortunately rain came before the game could be completed. Fifties were scored by Mitch Cooper and Toby Saunders (Orwell) and James Heslam (Reed). Michael ‘Juke Box’ Jukes captained Orwell and took 2 excellent catches. Matt Giblin led the Reed side. The game was well balanced when the rain came, so an honourable draw was [...]
The 2018 President's Day will be on Sunday 12th August. Teams will play short-side matches throughout the day with a Final to decide the Winners. All Club players will be welcome to participate. Gather at 1100hrs. Play commences at 1200hrs.
SATURDAY: For those of a certain age, the cricket vernacular referred to as a "Michelle", (Shane Warne often says it), means Pfeiffer, (as in the actress, Michelle Pfeiffer). For those of a younger generation, Pfeiffer rhymes with five-for. And there were two Reed players who had "Michelles" today. Alex Kelley took 5 wickets over at West Herts when the 2nds overhauled their target of 210 with 2 wickets intact. Matt Sampson scored 77 and Marcus Martin 42. By the end of the day, the Seconds were in 4th position in Division 4B. Meanwhile at the Freman Oval, the arguably most talented of the Hughes family, father Steve, took an amazing 5 for 23 as Hatfield Hyde were toppled for 122. The Thirds took their time but MJE Baker saw them home with an undefeated fifty when they won by 5 wickets. The 3rds regain 6th position in Division 9A. At a very green Green, thanks to the mid-week rain, the Firsts had a bit of an "After the Lord Mayor's Show" type of game. Batting first, Reed managed to reach a lowly 143 all out after being 50 for 1 at one stage. Ed Wharton made 35 and Sean Tidey 33. But this wasn't enough; Hoddesdon faced a massive amount of "dot balls", but still won comfortably, with overs in hand, by 4 wickets. Consequently, Reed have slipped from first place in the Championship to third as both Hoddesdon and West Herts leapfrogged them. SUNDAY: Club President, Andrew Emms, together with his wife Carol, hosted a lunch in aid of Parkinson's UK with donations directed towards research. Michelle Henderson from the organisation gave a very informative talk about the progress made into research into Parkinson's and [...]
