Reed 3rds fall short in the chase

Reed 3rds travelled to Northwood III with a relatively young side with two under 15s playing their first ever adult game. Northwood won the toss and elected to bat on a green wicket. Reed’s bowling started tightly through Owen Hughes (9-0-32-1) and Scott Nash (9-2-18-1) that restricted the opening batsmen of Mackey and Brooker. When the score was on 34 Scott Nash bowled Mackey for 12. This brought Amin to the crease that started to build a partnership with Brooker, however Reed were able to keep the scoring rate low through good bowling and fielding. Will Archer (9-0-32-0) bowled well with no reward. The Reed skipper then turned to Jason Archer to try and break the deadlock. Jason Archer (5-2-9-4) rolled back the years by getting Amin LBW for 41 to break the partnership. Jason Archer then picked up another 3 wickets very quickly through good line and length bowling to leave Northwood 125 for 5. However, Jason had to come off due to the heat. Reed Skipper, Rhodri Hughes (4-0-7-2) brought himself on to bowl with his slow bowling that suited the pitch. He removed Brooker the opener for 48 from a brilliant catch on the boundary from Sam Donner. Charlie Walters (9-0-41-0) bowled tightly at the end of the innings with Rhodri to restrict Northwood to 159 for 9. Reed’s reply started off well with Charlie Walters punishing the bad ball to the boundary, however he fell for 11. Reed also lost Scott Nash quickly to leave them 26 for 2. This brought Marcus Baker to the crease that looked to rebuild with Paul Garrott, it was tough to score through good bowling and fielding from Northwood. Reed going well at 59-2 then [...]
