Saturday: William Heslam led the way by scoring 117 in Reed 1st XI's 258 for 8. Brother James reached the forties. Stevenage made an uninspiring display after losing 3 early wickets by using 58 overs to close on 217 for 6. The match was as grey as the overhead sky! The Firsts slipped to 4th position in the Division. At Ampthill, Reed 2nd XI scored 211 for 9. Skipper, Marcus Martin, hit a ton but this total was too much for the hosts. Karl Ward took 3 wickets but Ampthill scored only 186 for 6 in their reply. Reed are in 3rd place. The only "result" match of the day was at Freman College where most of the runs came from the in-form Rob Willoughby, Maseeh Naeem and Mike Robertson. The Third XI reached 175 but Pirton lost 6 wickets, 3 of them to Matt Naeem, before they completed the "double" for this season. At the close of the day, the 3rds are in 7th position. The Fourths did not play. A non-league match had been arranged but was cancelled thus leaving the 4th XI stagnating in 5th place. Sunday: The bad news first. Reed's involvement in the 2016 National Village Cup has ended after defeat against Sibton Park. The Kent side made 186 for 9, five of the wickets taken by Mitchell Cooper. In the run-chase, William Heslam again went past fifty with support from Richard Wharton but after losing 8 wickets, Reed required a single off the last delivery. In a nail-biting finish, Sibton Park completed a run-out leaving Stuart Smith 44 not out! Best of luck to Sibton Park in the Quarter Finals in a fortnight. The better news. Reed's "friendly XI" [...]

Headlines – 18th / 19th June

Saturday: 1st XI: Match abandoned without a ball bowled. Reportedly, the outfield at Flitwick was flooded. Reed remain in 2nd position in the Championship Division. Elsewhere, there was a draw, a win and a loss. Nevertheless, the 2nds, the 3rds, and the 4ths are all in fifth position in their respective Divisions at the close of play today. The 2nd XI scored 236 for 4 largely due to 78 from Richard Johnson and 48 from the acting skipper, Phil Frenay. Broxbourne were 43 runs shy of their target, closing at 193 for 4, Pete Tidey claiming 3 for 49. At the Freman Oval, the 3rds were rescued from 60 for 8 by Owen Hughes (26 not out), Josh Conley and Joe Graves (26) who added a further 90+ runs for the last 2 wickets against Langleybury. Having that extra comfort provided the setting for Ian Roberts to take 8 wickets for 30 as the visitors were bowled-out for 77. The loss came at Northampton Exiles when the 4th XI were bundled out for 96 (Bill Mansfield's 29 was top score), and managing to take only 1 wicket thereby losing by 9 wickets. Headlines – 11th / 12th June

Saturday - No wins in the League! 1sts: A draw in the first of the "timed" formats. Reed held-on at 226 for 9 chasing Hoddesdon's 261 for 9. Ed Wharton was again in the wickets with 6 and Will Heslam battled to 95 before being stumped. 2nds: A long way behind at 187 all-out chasing 253 for 7 at Hertford. Ian Osbourne took 3 wickets and followed-up with a score in the forties. There were also forties for Richard Johnson and Rich Barlow but not enough others chipped-in to get close to the target. 3rds: Even further behind and losing by 135 runs. 202 was not a massive challenge after Joe Graves and Josh Conley had taken 2 wickets each, but St Albans had other ideas and the only major contributor with the bat was Rob Willoughby's 26 in a poor 67 all-out. 4ths: Letchworth hit 304 for 7 declared in just 31 overs at the Freman Oval. Astonishingly, one batsman had scored 249 of those! Wickets fell to Neil Haslam, (4), and Martin Johnson, (3). Reed hit back with 201 thus gaining some useful bonus points despite the defeat. Runs came from the bats of Martin Johnson, (60), Bill Mansfield, (50), and young Jack Wilkerson (21). Sunday (4th Round, Village Cup): Even on Sunday, the only winner was the weather! Reed batted first and closed their 40 overs on 262 with Chris Jackson top-scoring on 85. The match was abandoned because of rain after Long Marston had reached 58 for 1. The fixture will now have to be replayed anew, away at Long Marston at 1300hrs on Sunday 19th June. Their address is Marlins, Cheddington Lane, Long Marston, Near Tring, Herts, HP23 4QP. Saturday 1sts: Mitch Cooper had a grand day seeing Reed home in a 2 wicket win after taking 4 Hemel wickets earlier. Skipper Greaves also snared 4 victims whilst Chris Jackson and Sean Tidey scored thirties in the run-chase. Saturday 2nds: A fifty by Karl Ward and a thirty from Matt Bowles rescued Reed from the depths of 30 for 5 to a defendable 195 all-out away at St Albans. The hosts were 44 runs short as wickets were shared round. Saturday 3rds: Luton Town & Indians were also rescued by their last 2 partnerships and should have been bowled-out for 140-ish but in the end totalled 192. Newcomers, Jack Wilkerson (3), Jake Gifford (2) and "old-comer" Ian Roberts (2) claimed the wickets. Reed replied with a disappointing 82, 30 of which came from the bat of Maseeh Naeem. Saturday 4ths: This was an outstanding victory as Preston lost only 4 wickets compiling 206, which at the Freman Oval is well below par. In the second innings, makeshift opener Matt Yates hit 37, Paul Garrott 73 and Sam Deville 73 not out as Reed romped it in just 37 overs. Sunday, Village Cup: Reed won by 73 runs. Phil Frenay and Chris Jackson led the way with the bat scoring half-centuries in Reed's 204 for 9. Northchurch were well short at 131 all out. Reed will be at home to Long Marston in the next round on 12th June. Headlines – 21st / 22nd May

Saturday 1sts: In spite of two fiery spells by Ed Wharton giving him a 5 fer, Letchworth overtook Reed's total of 195 in a heavy drizzle to win by 2 wickets. Earlier the bulk of Reed's runs had come from Will Heslam (36), Richard Wharton (32) and Tom Greaves (21). Saturday 2nds: Richard Johnson avoided the jug by contriving to be run-out for a super 93 in the 8-run victory over Hemel. George Garrott took 3 wickets in the 2nd innings as Reed's total of 256 was in peril of being overhauled but fortunately the last wicket fell with just 3 balls remaining. After three matches, Reed are now in their accustomed position at the top-of-the-table! Saturday 3rds: There was no repetition of last week's run-chase win when the same two last wicket partners of Joe "Digger" Graves and Neil Haslam were at the crease at Balls Park. Maseeh Naeem hit 64 and Julien Fynn (31) to put Reed in touch with a 111-run partnership but Hertford fought back to win by 6 runs. Earlier, Hertford were bowled out for 223 with Graves and Jason Pallett taking 3 wickets each. Saturday 4ths: Potters Bar were dispatched for a lowly 108 at the Freman Oval, the wickets being shared around between Jake Gifford 2, Martin Johnson 2, Steve Hughes 2, Bill Mansfield 3 and Jonny Adam 1. Even shorter work was made with the bat as Martin Johnson, 49, Kieren Willoughby 34 not out and Mansfield biffed their way to 110 for 1 in just 12 overs.
