The Firsts lost to Leverstock Green by 60 runs. Bowled out for 190 chasing 250 for 8, Rob Lankester top-scored with 57. Earlier Toby Fynn had taken 3 of the visitors' wickets to fall. The second part of the double-header also went Leverstock Green's way. Owen Hughes took 2 wickets and Rupert and Fergus Martin 1 each as L-G racked-up 295 for 4 against Reed's Second XI. Richard Barlow led the reply with 80 for Reed supported by Chis Jackson's 45 but the task was too much and the innings ended at 200 for 5. Mid-week rain had prevented the outfield at Freman College to be fit for play and the Thirds' match against Old Albanian was cancelled. PGB

Headlines: Week ending 3rd September

SATURDAY: There were wins for the 1sts and 2nds and a loss for the 3rds in the final round of Herts League matches. At Chorleywood, the 1st XI defended their 155 all-out to win by 23 runs. Tom Greaves snared 3 wickets and there were 2 each for Jack Tidey, Ed Wharton and Rob Lankester. Lankester also scored 25 earlier but Reed's top-scorer was Chris Jackson with 38. In the final table of the Championship, Reed stayed in 4th position. West Herts were top and are promoted. Hoddesdon came second but next week have to play-off against Hertford who came 9th in the Premier Division to decide "Premier" status in 2018. Chorleywood and Botany Bay are relegated from the Championship. On the Green, the unlikely destroyer for Reed 2nd XI in their clash against Hoddesdon was Matthew L. Bowles. Not only did he take 5 wickets (for only 11 runs), but the last 3 completed a rarely seen hat-trick! Peter Tidey in his last game took 2 wickets as did George Garrott. Ed Garrott (33 not out) and Karl Ward (24 not out) took the Seconds home after being 46 for 5 at one stage. Hoddesdon may have lost this match but still managed runners-up spot in Division 4B. Harpenden were in 1st place and both are promoted. Hertford and Broxbourne are relegated but Reed held onto a respectable 4th position. In Division 9A, Potten End finished their season 97 points clear at the top of the table. They are headed for a higher standard and possibly could achieve Division 6 in three more seasons. Second-placed West Herts will also be promoted next season whilst Hemel Hempstead and Bayford & Hertford take the drop. Reed [...]

Headlines: Week ending 27th August

SATURDAY: The Firsts didn't quite have enough runs when Flitwick crept past their target of 216 with only 2 wickets in hand and less than 2 overs left. But a win is a win! Starring with the bat for Reed was young Mike Catt who scored 66 not out, and with the ball, Ed Wharton who claimed 4 for 37. At Chorleywood, where the Seconds were shot out for 93 in response to the host's 174 all out, Peter Tidey hoisted his star to figures of 4 for 23. One more league match to go PT! The "star" in the Third XI fixture was arguably Hemel Hempstead's stand-in skipper who reluctantly had to make the 'phone call on Saturday morning to concede the match when 3 players dropped-out overnight, thus giving Reed 30 well-needed points. Hemel are not only docked 10 penalty points, but under League Rules also have to pay £150 to Reed for conceding after the deadline! There is only one week remaining in the League programme. The Firsts are in 4th position, the Seconds are also 4th and the Thirds 7th in their respective Divisions. SUNDAY: No fixtures arranged. Watch the Test match instead perhaps. Expect Match Reports to follow shortly. PGB

Headlines: Week ending 20th August

SATURDAY: Alex Kelly continued personal good form as he took 2 wickets when he stepped-up to the depleted First XI. But West Herts cruised past Reed's 156 with only 4 wickets down. Sean Tidey (49) and Stuart Smith (35) were the main run-getters but Reed slid down to fourth place with just 2 matches remaining. The Seconds are also in fourth place. Hertford rattled up 297 for 7 on the Green but Reed were well-short having been bowled out for 175. George Teeboon top-scored with 37 and both Mike Robertson and Rich Barlow got past 30. Earlier, Julien Fynn took 4 wickets and Joe Graves, 3. The Thirds slipped up at Harpenden Dolphins and were all out for 162. MJE Baker led from the front with 82 then later Jack Childs took 2 of the 3 Dolphins' wickets to fall as they romped home with 7 wickets intact. SUNDAY: Karl Ward hit 13 fours in his 74 against Camden on the Green and Stuart Smith bashed 6 fours and 2 sixes whilst scoring 41. Lloyd Bowman weighed-in with 33 not out. 204 was 25 too much for Camden as they ended on 179 for 9, 4 wickets falling to Ollie Sayers. Expect Match Reports to follow shortly. PGB

Headlines; Week ending 13th August

SATURDAY: For those of a certain age, the cricket vernacular referred to as a "Michelle", (Shane Warne often says it), means Pfeiffer, (as in the actress, Michelle Pfeiffer). For those of a younger generation, Pfeiffer rhymes with five-for. And there were two Reed players who had "Michelles" today. Alex Kelley took 5 wickets over at West Herts when the 2nds overhauled their target of 210 with 2 wickets intact. Matt Sampson scored 77 and Marcus Martin 42. By the end of the day, the Seconds were in 4th position in Division 4B. Meanwhile at the Freman Oval, the arguably most talented of the Hughes family, father Steve, took an amazing 5 for 23 as Hatfield Hyde were toppled for 122. The Thirds took their time but MJE Baker saw them home with an undefeated fifty when they won by 5 wickets. The 3rds regain 6th position in Division 9A. At a very green Green, thanks to the mid-week rain, the Firsts had a bit of an "After the Lord Mayor's Show" type of game. Batting first, Reed managed to reach a lowly 143 all out after being 50 for 1 at one stage. Ed Wharton made 35 and Sean Tidey 33. But this wasn't enough; Hoddesdon faced a massive amount of "dot balls", but still won comfortably, with overs in hand, by 4 wickets. Consequently, Reed have slipped from first place in the Championship to third as both Hoddesdon and West Herts leapfrogged them. SUNDAY: Club President, Andrew Emms, together with his wife Carol, hosted a lunch in aid of Parkinson's UK with donations directed towards research. Michelle Henderson from the organisation gave a very informative talk about the progress made into research into Parkinson's and [...]

Headlines; Week ending 6th August

SUNDAY: Main headlines of the week clearly are that Reed beat Aston Rowant by 74 runs, (179 for 9 plays 105 all out),in the Semi-Final of the National Village Cup at Reed. The Final will be on Sunday 17th September at the headquarters of cricket, Lord's Cricket Ground. See you there! SATURDAY: The First team won by 5 wickets at Botany Bay when they chased the hosts' 161 all out. Mitchell Cooper took 5 for 29. Ed Wharton was put up the order and scored 61 whilst Rob Lankester was 45 not out as Reed romped home in 30 overs. Reed now top the table, 14 points clear of second-placed Hoddesdon. At the Pond, I mean the Green, the Seconds had their third successive fixture ruined by rain. After a delayed start, Reed managed to bowl only 4 overs before a further downpour made the ground unplayable. Broxbourne were 10 for 1; the wicket falling to Karl Ward. Reed's Third XI contained a strong line-up this week, but nevertheless Mill Hill Village just edged it by 7 runs. Rich Barlow batted well after Joe Graves and Steve Hughes had contributed to MHV being restricted to only 142 for 7 in their full 53 overs. Even so, Reed were bowled out for 135. This week was the end of the series of "Timed" matches. The final 4 fixtures in the programme will be back to the 50/50 limited overs format. Expect Match Reports to follow shortly. PGB

Headlines; Week ending 30th July

SATURDAY: The 1st XI had another great win by knocking Ampthill over for 105 then using only 17 overs to win by 7 wickets. Ed Wharton had figures of 5 for 12 and Tom Greaves claimed 3 wickets too. Sean Tidey biffed 47 in the reply. As all the other matches in the Championship were rained-off, Reed grabbed the chance to gain 30 points and currently are in second position, only 4 points behind West Herts. In the double-header, Ampthill were 7 wickets down for 70 but recovered to 167 for 7 by the end. Toby Fynn, playing his first game back from injury, took 4 of the wickets. Reed's second string were in a good position at 80 for 3 when rain put paid to the proceedings. Matt Bowles scored 27. Reed are in 4th place in Division 4B. The Thirds scored an underwhelming 62 all out on the Freman Oval, only Toby Emes (14) and Ben Moody (11) got double figures! Bayford & Hertford lost little time and only 1 wicket on their way to a comprehensive win. Reed are 7th in the Division 9A table. SUNDAY: Visitors, Orwell FC, made a competitive 247 for 9, "Sandy" Sandford reaching 101. Ben Mansfield took 4 for 22 and Richard Stuart claimed 2 wickets. Reed's response ended on 229 for 8 with Rob Lankester's 70 being top-score, but including useful innings by John Kershaw, (46), and Rhodri Hughes, (35). AREA COLTS: Both games involving Hertfordshire's Area Colts' Squads earlier in the week were cancelled because of the weather conditions. Expect Match Reports to follow shortly. PGB
