He scored 80 in the Second XI's 202 all out in response to Chorleywood's 268 for 7. A trio of Martins bowled and all took wickets, the most was Marcus with 3 of them. The Thirds collectively had a bad day! However, Toby Emes was top-scorer with an impressive 39 not out as Reed were bundled out for 101. Steve Hughes claimed the only Hatfield Hyde wicket, a catch by skipper Paul Garrott, as they sailed comfortably past the target. SUNDAY - RCC CHAIRMAN'S MATCH: Toby Fynn (104 retired) and Tom Greaves (76) starred with the bat for Stuart Smith's XI as the Chairman's team compiled 252 for 3. COLTS: The Under 11s registered a win over Saffron Walden on Monday. Charlie Walters scored 40 from only 15 deliveries in Reed's net score of 272 for 4. He also took 1 wicket when Saffron Walden fell 14 runs short; George Arnott, Thomas Green and Oliver Tallis were the other wicket-takers. Weirdly, the Under 13 teams of Reed and Cambridge St Giles met each other twice this week! In the Wednesday game at Dry Drayton, table-topping St Giles battered their way to 179 for 6. Adam Gardner took 3 for 12, Sam Osborne 2 for 31 and William Archer 1 for 15. Reed managed only 90 in reply. Top score was 30 (retired) by Sam Osborne and Charlie Walters and Archie McIntosh scored 16 each. Next day at Reed St Giles made 126 for 4 when there was one wicket apiece for Thomas Green, Matthew Liebenberg, Daniel Barons and Sam Osborne. SATURDAY (SHPCL): We have reached the halfway stage of the Herts League season. After 9 fixtures, the Firsts are 7th in the Championship Division. In the latest match at The Green, Langleybury were bowled out for 201 (4 wickets for Tom Greaves, and 3 each for Ed Wharton and Sean Tidey), but although coming tantalisingly close, Reed too were bowled all out for 194; James Heslam scored another fifty and both Tidey brothers passed forty. The Seconds were at Stevenage and after a good start they faltered to 213 all out. Chris Jackson was out soon after reaching his half-century and Phil Frenay was also in the runs. Stevenage lost 6 wickets before overhauling the target with 3 of the wickets falling to Matt Bowles. The Seconds find themselves 4th in Division 4B. The Thirds again had a beating at Freman College. Picking up only 7 points from this match against Mill Hill Village it's unsurprising to see Reed Thirds at the foot of the table in Division 9A. MHV totted-up 275 for 4 and in reply Reed were all out for 145. Top scorer was Keiren McKinna (39) and Mike Robertson (33) and Jack Childs (29) also chipped-in. SUNDAY: It was a ton-up for Toby Fynn in the friendly against Forest Gate. He was 115 not out and Owen Hughes scored 49 in Reed's 226 for 4. Steve Hughes took the only Foresters' wicket to fall as they sailed to 227 for 1. Village Cup News - for those interested in this season's events (since Reed were knocked-out [...]

COLTS: All three Colts teams were in action this week - unfortunately not with any success! On Wednesday the Under 13s were away at Saffron Walden where the hosts totalled 160 for 1. That wicket fell to Archie McIntosh who had a personally good day when he top-scored with 35 in Reed's reply of 88. The Under 9s played Pirton on Friday at Reed. The visitors were far stronger and passed 300 with the loss of only 4 wickets. The Reed youngsters could muster just 221 and lost 10 wickets in the process. Also on Friday, the Under 11s went to Whittlesford to meet opponents, Thriplow. Thriplow scored 113 for 4 (a net score of 293); Oliver Keenan took 2 wickets and Charlie Walters and Finn Collery 1 each. Missing some regulars, Reed lost 10 wickets as they scored 48 runs which gave them a net total of 198. Charlie Walters scored 19 but was out twice. SATURDAY (SHPCL): Matt Sampson showed his class with a chanceless ton at Hoddesdon. Rob Lankester and James Heslam also scored fifties as the First XI made it to 307 for 6. A thrilling match was ended by a run-out by the Sampson / Tom Greaves combination with the scores level. Tom Greaves had also taken 3 wickets. The Second XI marched on to 4 wins in a row at Reed. Chris Jackson and Mitchell Cooper each scored seventies in the hosts' 240 all out. And Cooper was in the action in the second innings too by claiming 3 West Herts' wickets when they were dismissed for 224. The Third XI was walloped at the Freman Oval. Welwyn Garden City raced to 352 losing only 3 wickets. At least [...]

COLTS: The Under 11s lost to Royston scoring 76 runs to the hosts' 87. The difference was that Royston lost 7 wickets giving them a net score of 252 but Reed lost 12 wickets! (Net score 216. Charlie Walters scored 14 and Jacob Vincent but both were out once each. James Heslam reports that Reed Under 9s gained more valuable experience in two defeats to strong Knebworth Park and Baldock sides. On Tuesday, Knebworth batted first and scored 286. The pick of the Reed bowlers was Josh Heslam taking 1-4 off his 3 overs. In reply Reed made 229 with Jamie Rogers top scoring with 8. It was a memorable night for 5 year-old Eddie Heslam who made his U9s debut standing-in at the last minute in his school uniform doing the Reed All Stars proud by bowling one over for just one run and scoring two singles! Then on Friday Reed batted first and scored 220. Unfortunately with all run scoring batsman getting out at least once no one scored more than 2 runs overall for Reed. In the 2nd innings Reed bowled pretty well but only Josh Heslam took a wicket against strong Baldock batting so they made their way to 280 despite another fine run out by Oscar Brickles. SATURDAY (SHPCL): Rich Wharton's was the stand-out performance for the Firsts hitting an undefeated 125 against Sawbridgeworth. Rob Lankester scored 63 as Reed closed on 290 for 7. Sawbo were never in the hunt and also lost 7 wickets but scored only 168 in the process. Karl Ward took 3 for 27. Karl Ward then took a five-for as LT&I responded with 205 for 9 and held out for a draw in the "June gloom". The two Richards (Barlow and Johnson) put together a century opening partnership on the Green as the Seconds easily stroked their way to 293 for 4. "Jonno" was run-out for 50 but "Barley" went all the way to 133 and Jack Caine also scored 43 down the order. Acting skipper, Ed Garrott, led the bowling attack taking 3 of Baldock's wickets but there were also 2 wickets each for Matt Giblin, Owen Hughes and Kieren McKinna and 1 for Maseeh Naeem. This fixture was remarkable for each team having an ECB-qualified umpire who are related; Paul Watts attached to Reed and brother Robin "Dobbin" [...]

SATURDAY, HERTS LEAGUE: The Whartons contributed 83 runs (Ed 53, Rich 30) of Reed First Team's 140 in a losing cause chasing Hemel Hempstead's 186. Ed had taken 2 wickets earlier, so too did Tom Greaves, but Sean Tidey took 3 for 2 and claimed a run-out. George Garrott was undoubtedly Man of the Match in the 2nd XI's clash against Northampton Exiles. Having routed them for 114 with 6 wickets, George then top-scored as Reed lost 9 wickets in their successful run-chase. There was nothing quite as dramatic at Ball's Park for the Thirds although Rob Willoughby did snare 4 of Hertford's wickets for 22 as they were bowled all-out for 177. Reed's reply did not even reach the drinks interval and they were shot away for just 51. SUNDAY: Regular opponents, Outlaws CC, made 208 for 5 and Reed responded with 185 for 9. Ross Gardner took 2 wickets and younger brother, Adam, 1. Debutant Khalid Maidan also registered a wicket. Reed's [...]

James Heslam top-scored with 83 and Ed Wharton passed 50, then wickets fell to Jack Tidey (3) and Ed Wharton, Toby Fynn and Tom Greaves (2 each). At the Green, Reed Seconds could not complete the “double” as Ampthill’s Seconds were all-out for 210 but could muster only 177 in reply. Julien Fynn had taken 3 wickets and Mitchell Cooper, George Garrott and Rupert Martin 2 apiece but whilst Phil Frenay scored 50 and Matt Sampson 34, there was not enough impetus to challenge the target. Over at Freman Oval, the Thirds were shot-out for 139 (Owen Hughes, 30 not out, Paul Garrott, 28 and Mike Robertson, 20), and Hitchin got [...]

Victories for the Firsts and Thirds but a 2 wicket defeat for the Seconds. On the Green, Reed accumulated 267 for 7 helped mostly by 58 assorted extras by Flitwick! Batting-wise, Reed's Will Heslam, James Heslam and Rob Lankester passed 40 whilst Ed and Rich Wharton reached the thirties. Flitwick were never in the hunt and thanks to Toby Fynn's 3 for 31 and Karl Ward and Sean Tidey taking 2 wickets each, the visitors were bowled-out for 150. Over at Northwood Town, Reed's Seconds managed only 163 for 8. Jack Caine, Matt Bowles and Rich Barlow made scores in the twenties but could not press-on. The hosts did not have it all their own way as Bowles with 3, and Matt Giblin and George Garrott (2 wickets each), helped by a Chris Jackson direct hit run-out, made Northwood Town battle it out to 164 for 8 before they passed Reed's total. The high-scoring ground at the Freman Oval saw Reed 3rd XI reach 256 for 4. Leading the celebrations was Rob Willoughby with a maiden ton of 115 not out.
