Jackson Chris-ens New Season with a Half Century and a Win

Jackson Chris-ens New Season with a Half Century and a Win Reed 1st XI Vs Hornsey 1st XI (played at The Green, Reed) Date: Saturday 23 April 2016 Match Type: Friendly Toss won by Hornsey who elected to field Result: Reed won by 11 runs Reed CC 173 for 9 (40 overs) C Jackson 55, T Greaves 31 Hornsey CC 162 for 9 (40 overs) T Greaves 3 for 35, E Wharton 2 for 15 Tom Greaves officially starts his reign as 1st XI captain on the field on May 5 when his side travel to Stevenage for the first league game of the season. His side look to have prepared well over the winter winning their opening friendly of the season against a strong Hornsey 1st XI by 11 runs. Paul Weekes, formally a professional cricketer for Middlesex CC between 1990 and 2006, called correctly at the toss and elected to field which seemed sensible as the conditions were suitable for swinging the ball and the wicket offered assistance to bowlers who could move the ball off the seam. Hornsey took advantage of the conditions and removed the Reed top three cheaply. But a solid 71 run partnership between Chris Jackson (55) and Tom Greaves (31) helped steady the ship and rebuild the innings. Sean Tidey chipped in with a quick fire 25 and everyone else contributed to help Reed get to a competitive total of 173 for 9 after 40 overs. Reed took to the field in the knowledge that if they bowled and fielded well, then 173 would be a competitive total with a wicket that still offered enough to the bowlers. Debutant Ed Wharton (2 for 15) soon extracted something from [...]

Well done Stuart Smith for running the London Marathon in 3 hours 49 minutes

Stuart's official time: 3 hours 49 minutes. My name is Stuart Smith and I have been a member of the club since I was 8 years old. On 24th April this year I will be running the London Marathon in aid of Prostate Cancer UK a charity which researches into a disease that my uncle died of on Christmas Day 2014 and that my dad Graham, another club member, had radical surgery for in October last year. You can help me raise money for this great cause by donating directly to my fundraising page. Just Giving sends your donation straight to PROSTATE CANCER UK and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more. Thank you for your support! Stuart

Wednesday evenings at the Clubhouse

A reminder for those not attending indoor Nets on a regular basis that the RCC Clubhouse is open for business every Wednesday evening from 1930hrs onwards. Come and have a chat, put the world to rights, watch soccer on the TV, throw a dart or two (or three!), play pool or simply enjoy the comfortable, newly-redecorated surroundings in the lounge bar. Bottled beers, lagers and ciders are on sale at “winter prices” (meaning cheaper than normal); plus soft drinks and nibbles, such as crisps and peanuts, some, (I am reliably informed), at even further reduced prices. How do we manage to stay solvent? Save on your own energy and heating bills by popping up to Reed. Every Wednesday evening through to April - when the cricket should begin outdoors (and beer prices go up). See you, PGB, Hon Sec, Reed CC P.S. All the Fixtures, apart from the odd Conference game, are now in the website calendar. Click on “View All Events” on the right of this page then choose the months you want to look at. Friendlies start on 9th April and the Herts League on Saturday the 7th May. The season ends in September.
