Reed travelled down the A1 to face North Mymms in their latest League encounter.
Losing the toss, Reed were put into the field on a sultry day. Opening bowlers Ed Wharton and Jack Tidey bowled excellent lines to keep the scoring down. Tidey (9-4-9-1) snared the first wicket in the eighth over caught at mid-on by Jack Caine with the score on 19 for 1.
Wharton (9-0-28-1) was soon in on the act with a great slip catch from Sean Tidey (24 for 2). The runs dried up as both bowlers bowled right through their allowance of nine overs.
Sean Tidey came into the attack and took a wicket in his first over (39 for 3), both Tidey and Mitchell Cooper (5-0-26-3) turned the screw even more leaving the hosts on 64 for 7, with less than 19 overs of their innings left.
Captain Wynne and Owen Millard doubled the score, before Sean Tidey (9-0-39-3) took his third wicket.
Two wickets from Matt Giblin (7.2-0-25-2) wrapped up the tail. The home side all out for 152 in the last over.
Brothers Ed and Richard Wharton opened Reed’s reply and hit 22 inside three overs before Richard was adjudged lbw, the first of skipper Wynne’s five wickets (9-0-43-5). Will Heslam came in and continued the brisk start. Ed Wharton then became the first of three wickets to fall on 37.
Heslam and Jack Caine set about restoring the innings, Heslam fell to a catch at mid-wicket (56 for 5). Stuart Smith joined Caine and played an anchor role as Caine reached 31 before also being adjudged lbw.
This left Mitchell Cooper 41 not out (in 33 balls) to join Smith 24 not out and they continued to dispatch any loose deliveries to all corners of the ground. The 50 partnership came off 49 balls. Smith hit the winning run in just over number 27, an emphatic victory to give Reed their first Premier League win.
