2013 Midweek XI Review

As usual we entered two midweek competitions last season. The legendary Keatley Cup and the more recent T20 competition, the Isobella Hospice Cup (IHC). Both Competitions were set up as a group stage format with the winners qualifying for the final. Unfortunately we did not retain the Keatley Cup this season after losing crucial games to Foxton CC and Thripow CC. Two very good teams, in their respected leagues. However, these were games we needed to and should have won. Both times our batting letting us down. We did record wins against local rivals Royston CC and Cokenach CC to keep local bragging rights! The final was held at the usual location of Therfield where Foxton and Cokenach competed for the trophy. Foxton ending up eventual winners. However, we added some new silverware to the ever growing Reed CC trophy cabinet, in the form of the IHC. We found ourselves in a group which included eventual division 1 winners Hertford CC, division 2 high flyers Broxbourne CC and Old Westmill CC (Not in a league). With Old Westmill not being able to raise a side, wins in the other two games were needed to qualify for the final. With some excellent batting from Will and James Heslam, Sean Tidey, Stuart Smith, Marcus Martin and tight bowling from Mitchell Cooper, Jack Tidey, Tom Greaves and Karl Ward (Sorry if I’ve forgotten anyone), Reed did just that! Tim Tidey added some much needed experience and class behind the stumps, taking some excellent catches and stumping’s. This all meant Reed topped the group and a final with division 4 side Cheshunt CC, was on the cards. The final was held at St Margaretsbury CC, with Reed the strong [...]

Paul stands down as Fixture Secretary

It is with regret that after many years of valued and much appreciated service we have to announce that Paul Watts is stepping down as Fixture Secretary of Reed Cricket Club. Paul has steered our Clubs fixtures through a period of significant expansion, during which we have also enjoyed unparalled success on the field. We now operate 4 x Saturday Xl's, and have been operating 2 x Sunday Xl's, as well as entering most available Midweek Cup competitions. Paul has proved a stalwart, capable and most diligent Fixture Secretary and we thank him most sincerely for his efforts and contribution. Paul will remain active within our Club, in both his highly respected Umpiring position, and he is also allowing his name to be put forward as 2014 Season Selection Committee Chairman. We also hope that the very popular "Watts Curry Nights" at the Club will continue to be a feature of the Clubs Social Calendar! Pauls departure does mean that we are looking for someone to take over the position of Fixture Secretary at our Club. The office requires filling ASAP as the 2014 Fixtures do require the usual "Winter Work" to be ready for the new season. Paul has a lot of experience, an information bank, and a proven methodology of success, which he is willing and able to pass on to the new incumbent Fixture Secretary. He will also be available to offer advice as necessary to his successor. Could YOU take on the role?  Will YOU take on the role?  Somebody needs to commit and make themselves available very soon - our AGM is on THURSDAY NOVEMBER 28th. In relation to the Fixture Secretary task - the vast majority of Saturday Fixtures are devised, determined and published by [...]
