Reed, who decided to bat against Royston made it look a good
decision by putting on 79 for the first wicket. Baz Curtis and Dave
Bowles were going along at 5 an over before Bowles was dismissed for
4 with Randall’s first ball. Curtis was joined by Chris Hayward. They
added another 22 in just 4 overs before Hayward went for 6. Curtis
retired when he reached his ton. He scored 104, hitting 15, 4s and 3,
6s. Mark Peart and Ian Fulk saw Reed past 150. Fulk made a patient 15
and Peart 20. Robert Dunn then came to the crease and worked the ball
around nicely. He was on 46 when the declaration came and Red had
reached 236-6.
Reed needed an early wicket and it came when Ian Roberts continued
from Saturday by removing dangerman Gary Mack. Royston had reached 53
with only the odd alarm before Roberts Struck again. Skipper Simon
Roberts then brought the spin twins of Peter Costen and Robert Dunn
into the attack. Between them they ripped the heart out of the
Royston batting. Costen took 5-24 in just 9 overs. Dunn had 2 victims
conceding just 7 runs in 5 overs. It was left to Tom Fulk to wrap up
the game having Saward LBW for 9. Royston were 106 all out and Reed
had won by 130 runs.
