Reed playing their first game of the season decided to bat in this
opening Herts League Division 2 fixture. It looked a good decision
when Simon Roberts bowled Rourke for a duck with just 9 on the board.
Reed kept Old Albanian under pressure and the run rate never reached
4 an over. Peter Costen was the star of the Reed attack, taking 3-58
in 18 overs. He was well supported by Peter Tidey, 1-57 and Richard
Robertson 1-44. Reed dropped a couple of catches at vital times that
meant Old Albanians could push on near the death with wickets in
hand. After 53 overs Old Albanians posted Reed 186 to win.
Reed were never really in the hunt once they were 13-3 and then
47-7. Only Jason Nolan and Simon Jackson with 10 and 14 respectively
reached double figures. Reed were 69-9 when Chris Bovington was
joined by Peter Tidey. They put on 44 for the last wicket before
Tidey was caught for a defiant 20. This left Bovington 27 not out and
Reed 72 runs short of their target. Reed picked up just 2 points.
