Richard Johnson will never forget his first team debut for Reed.
The u15’s opening bowler took full advantage of the conditions. He
swung the ball from ball one and the Hockley batsmen had no answer to
it. He took first first wicket in his second over, but with the last
3 balls of the same over completed a hat trick. The visitor were 9-4.
He then continued to mystify the rest of the batsmen who could score
off him either. He had the first 7 wickets before William Clarke
spoilt the 10 wicket dream. Johnson wasn’t going to let anyone else
into his party and removed the last 2 Hockley wickets. The visitors
were 73 all out in just 20.2 overs. Johnson’s returned the amazing
figures of 10.2 overs, 2 maidens, 9 for 18, 6 of which were
bowled!!!!
Reed sent in fellow under 15 star James Heslam and in the
circumstances senior (at 18) Ian Fulk. They put on 68 for the first
wicket before Heslam went of a typical stylish 24. Despite the loss
of another wicket Fulk saw the home side to a comprehensive 8 wicket
win.
