Reed put up an excellent all round team performance to defeat Broxbourne on Sunday. Batting first reed got off to a reasonable start with Simon Jackson and Heslam putting on 33. But the main partnership was between Geoff Wornham and Jackson who shared in a stand of 75 hitting the Broxborne attack to all parts. However, the wicket was damp and with the ball not coming on to the bat new batsmen found it hard to settle and the only other batsmen to make double figures were Johnson(12) and Radmore(10 not out). Nevertheless reed declared on 173-8 leaving Broxbourne roughly 40 overs to reach the target. Broxbourne however struggled from the offset with Johnson and Neil Haslam taking early wickets. However, it was Haslam who really impressed on his way to taking 5-27. With Broxbourne at 68-6 staging a mini recovery Heslam skippering a Reed team for the first time brought himself on and took 2-0 in 6 overs before Johnson rapped up the game uprooting the last mans off stump. Allsop also bowled very well taking 1-14 off 6.

Reed lost the toss and were inserted on a difficult wet pitch in this Sunday 40 over friendly game and struggled against accurate seam bowling from Hansen and Hunter, taking 10 overs to reach 23 without loss. When they tried to increade the scoring rate, wickets tumbled and they lost 6 wickets for 33 runs, until Richard Robertson and Mike Green put on 48 runs for the 6th wicket giving the Reed score some respectability. However Reed were bowled out for 113 with five balls left of the alloted 40 overs. In reply, the Great Chishill innings was dominated by a superb knock of 68 from Angus Gent who hit the ball to all parts of the ground and ensured a win for Great Chishill by 6 wickets.

Reed batted first in this 40 over friendly game and got off to an excellent start with Conrad Wellstead (15) and Tom Fulk (53) putting on 72 for the first wicket. Wellstead was then unfortunately run out and Paul Watts joined Fulk to add another 30. Then came the partnership of the innings., with Watts (72*) and Roger Bowcock (39) adding another 119 runs together to take Reed to 237-3 off their alloted 40 overs. Guilden Morden were immediatley in trouble, losing early wickets to the bowling of Wholley and haslam. However the best innings of the Morden reply came from two ex Reed colts in the form of 38 from Sam Ingrey with some clean hard hitting and 21 from Graham Wilson who demonstrated considerable aggression. Morden were eventually all out for 158 with james Foy and Neil Haslam doing most of the damage.

Thirteen teams entered the 2001 Presidents Day six-a-side competition. The 1999 winners, Simon and Chris Jackson were back after missing last years event, but the holders Duncan Easley and Jason Nolan were unable to defend their trophy. Play started promptly at 11am with one of the favourites for the trophy, Richard Johnson and Michael Berks taking on Tom Fulk and Marcus Martin. The younger pair batted first and up against the first team strike pair did well to reach 125 without losing a wicket. The did even better when it came to bowl, but in the end lost by 2 runs, but at least had the satisfaction of taking the only wicket of the match. The sun was out now and burning down and the weather looked set for a great day. Players were queuing up to field in the heat and cover the ground normally occupied by 11 fielders, not six|!! Robert Dunn returned to the playing arena with his brother Owen. The took on the father and son partnership of Richard and Michael Robertson. They didn't lose a wicket either on the way to 138. The Robertson's were totally at home. The wicket could have been prepared for them. Michael was in fine form striking the ball majestically. It was an easy win in the Reed derby with Michael and Richard reaching 160-0 Andy Goodship and Baz Curtis were trying to break their duck and win a game for the first time. They had to face another one of the favourites John and James Heslam. Reed batted first in this Sunday 40 over friendly game and scored steadily, with Paul Watts and Tom Fulk putting on 39 for the first wicket. Two wickets then went in two balls as Watts and Goodship were dismissed. Michael Robertson then joined Fulk, getting off the mark with a six and sharing a stand of 87 in 13 overs with Robertson falling for 49. Fulk then put on another 44 runs with Conrad Wellstead before falling for a majestic 79. Wellstead then took up the attack reaching fifty off the last ball of the innings. Reed had reached 243-6 off their allotted 40 overs. Reed used seven bowlers, but were unable to tempt Pulloxhill into chasing the target and they reached 142 for 7 off their 40 overs. Reed ran out a convincing 101 run winners.

Reed easily won in the 1st round of the National Village Cup against local team Shepreth. Reed amasssed the huge total of 279 in only 40 overs. Reed got off to another solid start with James Heslam and Roger Bowcock putting on 50 for the first wicket. However the loss of Bowcock bought Heslam and Jackson back together and the results were very similar to Saturday. With Heslam continuing his good form in scoring 40 before being stumped dancing down the wicket to leggy Phil Skinner and Jackson batting well b4 being caught for 42. However Reeds highest scorer was James' dad and 2nd team captain, John "one shot" Heslam. Heslam Snr scored 68 which included a 131 runs partnership with Jackson. Despite Andy Goodship “Lollipop” getting a duck, Reed managed a super total with Pete Costen chipping in with an entertaining 39. In reply Shepreth never got out of the traps, with Will Clarke pace and Neil Haslams tight swing bowling runs were never going to be easy. With wickets shared between Clarke, Haslam, Heslam, Costen and Clive Collins Reed finished off Shepreth for 120 in 30 overs to give Reed a tricky clash against Knebworth Park in the second round. Sorry Shepreth stole the book and I do not have any figures from their innings!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reed lost the toss and were asked to bat in this Sunday friendly game. They got off to a good start with Tom Fulk and Jeffrey Wornham putting on 56 for the first wicket. When Fulk and Andy Goodship went qucikly, Ed Blissett took up the challenge, scoring 51. Reed eventually declared on 175-9. In reply, Taylor Sports found runs hard to come by against accurate seam bowling from Will Clarke 10-5-8-0 and Jim Allsopp 6-1-20-0 and seemed to give up the chase and settled for a draw.
