Willoughby Bros do the damage
Reed III versus Letchworth Garden City IV at Fairfield Park, Stotfold on Saturday 16th June 2018. Once the scores were level, Kieren Willoughby hit over the top to the boundary to take Reed’s Third team to victory by 4 wickets and his personal score to 83 not out. On the wide outfield at Fairfield Park over 490 runs were notched-up with Letchworth’s captain, Michael Hughes, making an undefeated 140 of them in his team’s innings of 244 for 5. His opening stand with Keith Nowland (73) was worth 157 but Reed’s Rob Willoughby (3 for 39) made inroads in the batting order thereafter with supporting wickets from Kieran McKinna and Maseeh Naeem (1 each). Enthusiastic fielding by especially Jack Childs, Kieren Willoughby and Rhodri Hughes saved a score of runs and Kieran McKinna safely pouched a catch whilst MJE Baker displayed his keeping skills with a stumping. Requiring a shade under 5 an over, Rob Willoughby was lost early but PG Baker and Rhodri Hughes scored freely adding 89 together before Hughes was run-out for 43. The two Bakers partnered each other for a while but pére skied one and was out for 41 then fils was run-out for 29. Jack Childs and skipper Maseeh Naeem came and went leaving Reed poised at 178 for 6 with the outcome unpredictable. Owen Hughes gave solid support in what turned-out to be a crucial match-winning stand whilst Kieren Willoughby found the boundary with ease. Time was never a problem and so it was that with 3 overs to spare Reed had drawn level and after one more delivery had passed the target.
