Phil Lill Reed's oversees player from New Zealand- made it his day with an outstanding all round performance that saw him take 3 wickets and making his maiden hundred for Reed. Reed were hosting their annual rivals and friends Aston and having lost the toss were asked to field first. Aston captain Falder opened the batting and with Hollis looked perfectly comfortable in making a solid platform until Graham Stuart (8-1-27-1) bowled Hollis. First change bowler George Garrott (5-1-18-1) got into the action taking a wicket with his first ball. Meanwhile, replacing Graham Stuart, Sam Rice initially struggled as Falder made 62, but eventually got things going finishing with 3 wickets. Reed captain Marcus J.E. Baker took the wicket of his opposite number and that of another for just 16 as he and Phil Lill (3-27) bowled out the final few overs. Reed restricted Aston to 185 with credit going to Ben Moody who gave another solid performance behind the stumps. In the second innings Phil Lill, opening with Paul Garrott, took to things with ease putting on 71 for the first wicket. Paul Garrott, who had played the supporting role to Lill, was lost for 17 but his son George replaced him and quickly out scored him some brutal hitting of his own making 18. With runs still to be made, Phil Lill found yet another useful partner in the form of Ben Moody who rotated the strike excellently. Lill’s clean hitting was at no point hindered and he made his maiden century for Reed before retiring. Ben Moody then put away a few boundaries as he took his side closer to victory.
